    摘要: A method for controlling nitrogen oxides (NO.sub.x) levels in a gas produced by a fossil fuel fired unit comprises establishing an optimum gas temperature range for the unit and monitoring a gas temperature of the unit. The heat exchanger surfaces of the unit are then cleaned until the monitored gas temperature is within the optimum gas temperature range. An optimum fuel combustion rate range is also established for the unit and a fuel combustion rate of the unit is monitored. Air is provided to the unit until the monitored fuel combustion rate is within the optimum combustion rate range.

    摘要: A method is provided for cooling of particulate material from a combustion plant, especially intended for cooling of fine-grained dust which has been separated from the flue gases from a PFBC power plant, and in which the material is transported pneumatically with the flue gas as transport means. A cooler is provided at the inlet of which there is a space for separation of the particulate material from the transport gas. The transport gas is removed via a gas cleaner. The particulate material is collected in a duct where it forms a particulate column. The duct includes cooling modules, suitably water-cooled, which cool the material on its way down through the duct. The duct comprises devices for the supply of a gas for stirring the material in the duct while the remaining flue gas is being separated from the particulate column.

    摘要: A self-adjusting joint packing for a sootblower of the type having a stationary feed tube gland with an overfitting lance tube which is moved within the combustion device to emit a blowing medium for cleaning purposes. The joint packing gland mechanism causes the axial loading on the joint packing which forms a seal between the lance tube and the feed tube to be automatically adjusted upon each sootblower actuation cycle. The joint packing gland includes an actuator which engages the sootblower frame upon actuation of the sootblower causing relative rotation between the actuator and lance tube. A friction clutch is interposed between the actuator and a threaded gland to transmit rotation only when a packing preload force is below a predetermined level, thus adjusting packing force when needed.

    摘要: A sootblower for the cleaning of internal surfaces of large scale boilers which are subject to the accumulation of soot or slag encrustations. In instances where a sootblower is used to project the jet of steam of steam or a steam/air mixture, between actuation cycles, condensate can form in the sootblower or the associated piping. At the beginning of an actuation cycle the condensate is ejected from the sootblower. If the condensate impinges against the heat transfer surfaces inside the boiler it can cause damage to these surfaces through excessive thermal and mechanical shock. In accordance with this invention the sootblower is provided with a nozzle block assembly incorporating a condensate separator which causes condensate to be ejected by the lance tube away from impact with the heat transfer surfaces where it can be safely dissipated from the boiler without causing damage to the heat transfer surfaces which are cleaned using a substantially fully vaporous pure spray of sootblowing medium.

The nozzle extend between the protective tube and the wall. The soot-blowing tube has satisfactory heating protection and the coolant in the protective tube has the same exit temperature as the other tubes of the heat-exchanger heating surface.

    摘要: There is disclosed a chimney cleaner comprising a frame of rectangular cross-section narrower than the internal dimension of the chimney flue to be cleaned and having a substantial vertical height with spring-loaded pivotal flue side-scraping blades mounted to swing outwardly and upwardly from the sides of the frame to firmly contact and scrape the sides of a flue; preferably there are four blades with two oppositely disposed blades displaced vertically from the other two oppositely disposed blades whereby the blades may be substantially the full width of the flue and yet not interfere one with the other. Blade holders for the blades have arms extending toward the center of the frame and a central shaft has camming plates which act against the arms to retract the blades for lowering the apparatus into a flue; the shaft is vertically displaced by a pull on the rope connected thereto releasing the arms from the camming plates and allowing the adjustable-force, spring-loaded blades to spring out against the interior walls of the flue. As the apparatus is drawn up the flue the blades scrape creosote, soot and other deposits from the interior walls of the flues. The apparatus or the blades, or both, may be sized and shaped to accommodate different sizes and shapes of flues and the apparatus may be employed with ceramic flue tiles, metal pipe or other forms of chimney structure.

The grill has an arcuate shape complementary to the object, such as a stovepipe, on which it is located. Heat transfer is effected by substantially increasing the conductive area of the surface of the object on which it is mounted, by reflecting radiant heat energy emitted by the surface, and, in the case of a stovepipe, by also increasing turbulence within the stovepipe to reduce stack velocity and produce more complete burning.
