The present invention relates to a cosmetic composition containing, as an agent for protecting against light, pure aloesin or an aloe extract containing at least 40% of aloesin and less than 5% of barbaloin, in a quantity of 0.5 to 20% by weight, in a cosmetically acceptable medium.Such a cosmetic composition can consist of a protective composition, a sunscreen composition or a cosmetic composition stabilized against light and can be applied on skin or to hair.

A composition for topical application to the skin comprises, in an appropriate cosmetic vehicle, as an active agent, a compound of the formula ##STR1## wherein, R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 represent hydrogen or lower alkyl; R.sub.3 represents hydrogen, alkyl containing 1-4 carbon atoms, mono- or polyhydroxyalkyl having 2-16 carbon atoms, carbamylalkyl, carboxyalkyl or alkoxycarbonylalkyl; R.sub.4 represents hydrogen or --COOR.sub.5 represents hydrogen, alkyl having 1-18 carbon atoms optionally interrupted by one or more hetero atoms, or mono- or polyhydroxyalkyl having 2-18 carbon atoms; and n is 0 or 1.This composition improves the elasticity and suppleness of the skin.

The invention relates to a composition for dyeing keratinous fibres, in particular human keratinous fibres such as hair, comprising, in an appropriate dyeing medium, at least one cationic direct dye of a given formula, and which is characterized in that it contains, in addition, at least one silicone chosen from the aminated silicones, the polyoxyalkylenated silicones, the silicone gums and resins. The invention also relates to the dyeing methods and devices using it.
