    摘要: A method of determining the location and type of dimensional defects, particularly friction generating defects, which comprises: (a) initiating simulated operation at ambient conditions of an assembly having certain sliding or rolling contact surfaces; (b) sensing any change in the temperature of such assembly surrounding each certain sliding or rolling contact surfaces (i) with a resolution of 0.02-1.0 C.degree. (preferably 0.1-0.7 C.degree.) and (ii) during a time span of 2-10 seconds measured from such initiation to provide separated voltage signals for each location; (c) converting the signals to a digitized thermal map; and (d) comparing the sensed digitized thermal map with a reference digitized thermal map for such an assembly without defects operated during the same time span and adjusted to compensate for any differing thermal conditions. Any deviations detected by such comparison representing defects.

    摘要: The disclosed apparatus provides a universal wheeled cart for carrying electronic devices to be stress tested in a sealed environmental chamber in which the temperature is varied between high and low limits while the power to the electronic components is being turned on and off. The cart is configured to substantially fully occupy the insulated heated chamber which is provided with tracks for the wheels of the cart. In addition to a front access door for admitting the cart, the chamber is provided with a rear rectangular aperture through which a novel rectangular bustle mounted on the cart extends. The bustle support a plurality of connectors through which power is supplied to the electronic devices. Complementary power actuated electrical connectors are mounted in fixed relation to the rear aperture, and when actuated, all power connections to the electronic components are made through the bustle and standardized busses on the cart. A unique removable seal on the bustle provides an insulated closure for the rear aperture. The chamber is provided with conventional heating apparatus.

    摘要: Techniques for determining a thermal condition of a pipeline include identifying a pipeline that carries a fluid at a steady-state temperature, where the pipeline includes a tubular conduit that includes a bore that carries the fluid, and a layer of insulation installed over an exterior surface of the tubular conduit; changing the steady-state temperature of the fluid by applying a thermal contrast to the pipeline; based on changing the steady-state temperature, detecting a thermal gradient between the fluid carried in the bore and at least one of the tubular conduit or the layer of insulation at a particular location of the pipeline; and based on the detected thermal gradient, determining a presence of at least one of water or water vapor between the exterior surface of the tubular conduit and the layer of insulation at the particular location of the pipeline.
