    Abstract: A low noise amplifier circuit (10) includes an attenuator (12) for receiving a calibration signal and generating an attenuated calibration signal. A low noise amplifier (14) amplifies the attenuated calibration signal in calibration mode or amplifies a functional signal in functional mode. In calibration mode, a envelope detector/comparator (16) compares the calibration signal with the output of the low noise amplifier and generates a compensation signal indicating a deviation between the two signals. The gain of the low noise amplifier is adjusted responsive to the compensation signal.

    Abstract: Technologies are provided for variable gain amplifiers (VGAs). An example VGA includes a resistor ladder including resistor legs coupled to first and second resistors; first differential switches connected to the resistor ladder and second differential switches connected to output nodes, a transistor in each of the first differential switches being coupled to an first electrical line interconnecting the first resistors and a different transistor in each of the first differential switches being coupled to a second electrical line interconnecting the second resistors; third differential switches connected to the resistor ladder and fourth differential switches connected to the output nodes, a transistor in each of the third differential switches being coupled to the first electrical line and a different transistor in each of the fourth differential switches being coupled to the second electrical line; and a pair of transistors respectively connected to the first differential switches and the third differential switches.

    Abstract: An electronic device with wireless circuitry is provided. The wireless circuitry can include a radio-frequency data converter block configured to receive baseband signals and to output corresponding radio-frequency signals to a radio-frequency power amplifier. The radio-frequency data converter block may include one or more radio-frequency digital-to-analog converter (DAC) cells configured to receive an oscillator signal. The radio-frequency data converter block can exhibit a gain that is controlled using gain control circuitry. The gain control circuitry can control the gain of the radio-frequency data converter block by selectively enabling switchable components within each DAC cell to realize an incremental gain step of a first resolution and by adjusting the duty cycle of the oscillator signal to realize an incremental gain step of a second resolution finer than the first resolution.

    Abstract: A control portion for controlling an amplifier portion of a transmitter device is provided. The amplifier portion is arranged to amplify a radio signal with a transmission gain based at least partially on a gain control signal and having a nominal gain relationship between the gain control signal and the transmission gain. The control portion is arranged to determine a desired transmission gain, to determine one or more operating conditions, to calculate a gain control signal for causing the amplifier portion to apply the desired transmission gain, taking into account the nominal gain relationship and the one or more operating conditions, and to output said gain control signal. The gain control signal is different to a gain control signal calculated based only on the nominal gain relationship.
