Abstract:
An optical fiber passive alignment apparatus for passively aligning optical fibers with input/output optical waveguides of an integrated optical device includes an optical fiber array block on which the optical fibers are mounted with a uniform spacing and having alignment grooves parallel to the optical fibers, and an optical fiber fixing plate for fixing the mounted optical fibers to a substrate; an optical waveguide device chip having an input/output optical waveguide array consisting of optical waveguides corresponding to the optical fibers, for coupling with the optical fibers, and alignment holes; and an alignment platform having first alignment ridges separated by the same spacing as the alignment grooves, for coupling with the alignment grooves, alignment bumps in positions corresponding to the alignment holes, for coupling with the alignment holes, and a space between the first alignment ridges for preventing the optical fiber plate of the optical fiber block array from contacting the alignment platform. The optical fiber passive alignment apparatus does not require a light source and a photodetector, or precise alignment with respect to an alignment axis having six degrees of freedom, so that less time and cost are required for attaching optical fibers to the optical waveguide device chip.
Abstract:
An erbium doped fiber amplifier has a shape of the gain spectrum which is independent of the operating conditions by using a gain medium with this property. The gain medium can be an erbium-doped fiber with a wavelength-independent gain swing over a range of wavelengths (especially a low Al.sup.3+ -content aluminogermanosilicate EDF). As an alternative, the gain medium can consist of at least two pieces of EDFs, so that changes of the shape of the gain spectra (induced by changes of the operating conditions) in the different types of EDFs effectively offset each other. Within an overlapping wavelength range, the gain spectrum can then be further modified in a power-independent way (i.e.--independent of operating conditions) so as to make the gain spectrum flat (i.e.--gain wavelength-independent) by means of one or several optical filter(s) placed before and/or after the gain medium, and/or distributed along the gain medium, or by means of a "filtering EDF", specially selected in a constant population inversion region of the EDFA. The gain spectrum thus obtained is both flat and independent of operating conditions so that a dynamic gain flatness which is independent of input signal power, operating gain, and population inversion is realized. As a desired consequence of the dynamic gain flatness, the gain of different channels in a WDM system will always be equal, irrespective of the operating conditions. Furthermore, AC gain tilt will be eliminated for analog AM CATV systems.

An energy storage apparatus has developed for railway vehicles by adopting a bidirectional DC-DC converter to increase the efficiency of charge/discharge, comprising that; a power receiving unit, filter unit, charging unit storage unit having a plurality of super-capacitors, capacitor monitoring unit, a plurality of bidirectional DC-DC converters arranged in parallel, and voltage detector electrically connected to the filter unit, current detector for detecting the currents flowing. The controller further comprises; an analog interface board, signal identifying board, signal control board, digital output contact unit, communicating board, PWM control board, optical output board, external gate driver. The PWM control board includes; a sensor input circuit, A/D converter, calculation unit, calculation control processor, and power monitoring unit. It is easy to add a storage unit including supercapacitor in a form of box module for increasing capacity and efficient of charging/discharging of the storage unit through various sensors and signal checking.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to an image sensor for a capsule endoscope which enables a dual mode operation, and more particularly, to an image sensor for a capsule endoscope wherein two image sensors identically designed and manufactured for photographing the inside of a human body are used and set as a master and a slave, respectively so as to enable a dual mode operation in which two chips are linkage-operated.
Abstract:
A scan driver drives a display device having a plurality of gate lines transferring scan signals, and a plurality of source lines transferring data signals. The scan driver includes a shift register and a multiple signal applying unit. The shift register includes a plurality of cascade-connected stages, each stage having an output terminal electrically connected to a respective one of the plurality of gate lines. The multiple signal applying unit applies a sub scan signal and a main scan signal. The sub scan signal and the main scan signal sequentially activate each of the plurality of gate lines. Therefore, the scan lines receive the scan signal twice, so that the liquid crystal capacitors electrically connected to the gate lines receive the data voltage twice. As a result, even though the time for charging the liquid crystal capacitors may be reduced, the liquid crystal capacitors may be fully charged to enhance display quality.
