    摘要: The present invention relates to an inertial latch mechanism of an actuator of a thin disk drive device. An inertial latch mechanism comprises a latch lever rotatable on a pivot from a release position to a latch position, and an inertial lever which is rotatable on a pivot and has a moment of inertia larger than that of the latch lever. The inertial lever rotates counterclockwise when a counterclockwise shock is given to the actuator, and pulls the latch lever at a first latch part by a first latch projection to move the latch lever to the latch position. The inertial lever also rotates clockwise when a clockwise shock is given to the actuator, and pushes the latch lever at a second latch part by a second latch projection to latch the actuator which has bumped against a crash stop and is reversely rotating.

    摘要: A magnetic recording disk drive includes a bidirectional rotary inertial lock to reliably lock the actuator in the parked position. The lock engages the actuator even in the presence of a rotational acceleration tending to drive the actuator into its crash stop. In one embodiment, the rotary inertial lock includes an arm being maintained at a neutral position in the absence of an external force and being freely rotatable in first and second opposite directions to lock the actuator and prevent its movement from or into a crash stop.

    摘要: A high torsional stiffness low axial deflection stiffness flexible drive shaft apparatus is provided for driving a magnetic tape cassette and includes a drive shaft having opposite ends, a device for engaging the magnetic tape cassette and a pair of flexible diaphragms. A device is connected to one of the drive shaft ends, one of the flexible diaphragms, and is connectable to a motor for transmitting torsional force from the motor to the drive shaft via the flexible diaphragm. Another device is connected to the other end of the drive shaft, the other flexible diaphragm and the tape cassette engaging device for transmitting torsional force from the drive shaft to the engaging device via the other flexible diaphragm. Because the diaphragms are too delicate to handle thrust loads and because the torsional stiffness of the diaphragm degrades rapidly as its center is displaced axially with respect to the outer driving points, a device is operably connected to each torsional force transmitting device for transmitting thrust loads exerted along the axes of rotation of the drive apparatus. With this arrangement the drive apparatus can easily adapt for misalignment of the drive apparatus with the magnetic tape cassette to deliver a reliable rotating force.

    摘要: A microfabricated microscope assembly including a piezoelectric bimorph cantilever arm mounted at one end to a first substrate. The free end of the canitlever arm has a tip mounted thereto for scanning a scanned surface mounted on a second substrate. The cantilever arm and the substrate are configured to carry out a predetermined write or read mode of operation, such as scanning tunneling microscopy or atomic force microscopy. The two substrates are spaced apart a fixed distance by spacer feet which project from one of the substrates and which have their ends fixed to ther surface of the other substrate by eutectic, aniodic, or adhesive bonding. An array of microfabricated microscope assemblies is formed using a plurality of individual assemblies. A number of different write/read modes of operation are accommodated, such as charge storage, molecular attachment, or magnetic domains. An array of piezoelectric cantilever arms having tips fixed to the free ends thereof and mounted to a substrate form are used to scan a scanned surface. The array is moved laterally with respect to the scanned surface using mechanical actuators as micropositioners for coarse positioning and using the piezoelectric cantilever arms for fine positioning.
