Abstract:
An apparatus for extrusion forming a sheet product having an extruder assembly with a sheet die through which a flowable material is delivered and a roll stand assembly made up of a roll stack sub-assembly and a sheet take-off sub-assembly. The roll stack assembly has first and second rolls between which a nip location is defined at which flowable material from the sheet die is delivered. The sheet take-off sub-assembly produces an advancing force upon a first sheet component made up of at least the first sheet layer. The roll stand assembly further has a coating system for applying a coating component to a surface on at least one sheet component advancing through the apparatus. The roll stand assembly is constructed to be reconfigured thereby to change a path traveled by the at least one sheet component and facilitate selective application of the coating component.
Abstract:
A coated glass mat comprises a glass mat substrate having non-woven glass fibers and a coating which essentially uniformly penetrates the glass mat substrate to desired fractional thickness of the coated glass mat. The coating imparts a tensile strength to the coated glass mat which on average is at least 1.33 times greater than the tensile strength of the glass mat substrate without the coating. In example embodiments, penetration of the coating into the glass mat substrate preferably extends to a depth of from twenty five percent of a thickness of the coated glass mat to seventy five percent of the thickness of the coated glass mat. Moreover, a non-coated thickness of the coated glass mat is sufficiently thick for bonding purposes with, e.g., a gypsum slurry or other core materials such as thermoplastic or thermosetting plastics. The coating has a porosity in a range of from 1.3 CFM to 5.0 CFM, e.g., the coating comprises a coating blend which provides the coated glass mat with a porosity sufficient to allow water vapor to escape from a gypsum slurry when heated. The coating is preferably a coating blend comprised of water, latex binder, inorganic pigment, and inorganic binder.
Abstract:
An applicator for applying drywall mastic or other material to a flat drywall surface or to an outside drywall joint or other surface comprises a body member having an upper surface and a lower surface and a pair of opposed ends, a recess in the lower surface for connection to a source of the material to be applied to the surface and at least one pair of opposed arms pivotally mounted on one of the sides of the body member for movement between deployed and retracted positions depending on whether the material is being applied to an outside corner joint or a flat surface, respectively. In another embodiment, the applicator has a pair of relatively moveable blades located in operational relationship with respect to each other for controlling flow of the material from the recess to the surface to which it is being applied.
Abstract:
The present invention has an object to provide a cylindrical printing substrate having a highly accurate thickness and surface smoothness suitable for printing. The present invention is a method of manufacturing a cylindrical printing substrate containing a photosensitive resin cured layer, comprising the steps of: (i) forming a spiral coating layer by applying the photosensitive resin on a cylindrical support body by a spiral coating method; (ii) forming an application layer made of the spiral coating layer having a uniform surface by bringing a doctor blade into contact with the spiral coating layer and having the spiral coating layer pass through a gap formed by the doctor blade and the cylindrical support body outer circumferential surface and then, of separating the doctor blade from the application layer; and (iii) forming the photosensitive resin cured layer by light-curing the application layer, in which the doctor blade is brought into contact with the spiral coating layer from below the cylindrical support layer and then, the doctor blade is separated downward, a manufacturing device for use in the manufacturing method.
Abstract:
It is possible to give ultrathin and uniform coating on a flexible web in scraping-off type coating. The distribution of pressure in a web width direction is adjusted by a pressure distribution adjusting device when an excess of coating liquid excessively applied is scraped off by a doctor blade by giving relative pressure to a coating surface of a web and the doctor blade after applying the coating liquid that is more excessive than the desired quantity of the coating liquid on the web by a precoating apparatus while making the web continuously travel.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to an improved doctor blade and bedplate apparatus wherein there is a recess in the bedplate from some position upstream of the doctor blade to some position downstream of the doctor blade. This recess or gap in the area of the bedplate under the doctor blade allows one to form an even or uniform coating on the back of a web of material. This is particularly helpful in forming uniform coatings on the back of a greige good which has face fibers of varying lengths. The present invention also relates to an improved process for preparing a relatively uniform coating on the back of a web of material.
Abstract:
When a running web (3) is coated with a liquid coating mixture, at least one side of the web is provided with a coating (40, 40null) of coating mixture. Existing excess (33) of coating mixture in or adjacent to the regions of the edge portions of the web is removed by being blown off downstreams of where the coating operation is performed.
Abstract:
A coating layer forming apparatus for minimizing the amount of the coating solution when forming a coating layer on a part and enhancing a dimensional precision of a formed surface of the coating layer. The coating layer forming apparatus has a rotation supporting device, a feeder (15), a layer former, and a coating removing device, maintains the inclined angle of a coating former for forming the coating layer at 30 to 70 degrees with respect to a tangential direction of rotation of a coating of a coating surface, and removes excess coating solution deposited on the coating former by a coating removing device.

Abstract:
The present invention relates to methods and apparatus for the controlled placement of a shear-thinnable polymer composition into a moving web. The controlled placement is preferably performed by applying the polymer composition onto a surface of a moving web, shear thinning the composition and placing it into the web, and curing the polymer composition. A preferred apparatus includes one or more process heads that has mounted thereto a rigid knife blade for engagement with the moving web. The knife blade is movable vertically and rotationally. The process head is also movable horizontally along the path of the moving web. A plurality of macro and micro tension zones are established and are monitored for controlling the apparatus and process. Additional measurements of web density, micro porosity, placement of an internal layer of polymer within the web, analysis of elements on the treated web, and the size of the polymer bead applied to the moving web are measured for controlling online the apparatus and the process of this invention. This method and apparatus produces webs that either has some of its structural elements encapsulated by the polymer composition while at least some of the interstitial spaces of the web are open; or has an internal layer extending through the web in a direction generally spaced from at least one major surface thereof; or has both encapsulated structural elements and an internal layer of polymer composition.
