    Abstract: To inhibit an after burn phenomenon, an accelerating apparatus (P) is sectioned into a pump chamber (23) and a pressure receiving chamber (24) by a partition body (20), an acceleration fuel intake path (25) and an acceleration fuel discharge path (28) are open to the pump chamber (23), and a fuel discharge path (30b) is open to a float chamber (8), a negative pressure introducing path (30a) is open to the pressure receiving chamber (24), a pump spring (31) is provided compressedly in the pressure receiving chamber (24), and a valve body (34) is formed by a jet opening and closing valve portion (34a) opening and closing an opening portion (6a) of a main fuel jet (6) when an engine operates and stops respectively by a solenoid apparatus (S), and a discharge path opening and closing valve portion (34b) opening and closing the fuel discharge path (30b) when an engine stops and operates respectively, and synchronously moves with a movable core (17) of the solenoid apparatus (S).

    Abstract: An enrichment device for a charge forming system for an internal combustion engine that is responsive to induction system pressure for effecting a pumping action to draw fluid in when the engine is operating in a steady state condition and to discharge fluid for enrichment when the engine is being accelerated. The system includes a series of interrelated pressure sensing chambers for controlling the operation of the pump to avoid fluctuations during small variations in induction system pressure but to permit rapid and immediate pumping action upon sudden pressure changes.

    Abstract: A butterfly type motorcycle carburetor including a housing having an induction passage and a venturi intermediate the ends of the passage, a butterfly valve assembly positioned in the induction passage downstream from the venturi and a fuel bowl mounted on the housing and forming a fuel reservoir below the induction passage. A main discharge tube is mounted in the housing with one end extending into the venturi in the induction passage and the other end into the fuel reservoir in the fuel bowl. An accelerator pump system is provided in the carburetor which includes a discharge nozzle that extends into the induction passage downstream from the venturi for directing fuel discharged from the nozzle toward the butterfly valve. An enrichment system is provided in the carburetor which can be selectively set at any position. A low speed air/fuel metering system is provided in the housing for low speed operation. A teardrop type air cleaner is mounted on the inlet end of the induction passage and includes an air directional cone axially aligned with the induction passage for directing filtered air into the induction passage. All of the air passing through the carburetor is filtered before entering the carburetor.

    Abstract: In a carburetor of a motor vehicle engine having an accelerating pump for supplying additional fuel when an accelerator pedal is depressed to a large extent, the accelerator pedal is connected to a slider which is connected through an accelerating pump cable to a swing arm for actuating the accelerating pump via a link and a lever. The slider is connected also to a throttle lever through a throttle cable. The throttle lever is coupled to a throttle shaft of a throttle valve by means of a torsion spring. When the accelerator pedal is depressed, the throttle cable and the accelerating pump cable are pulled, and the control lever is turned to rotate the throttle shaft by way of the spring in a direction toward an open position of the throttling valve so that the engine is accelerated, while the accelerating fuel pump is operated through the swing arm, the link and the lever so that an increased amount of fuel is supplied by the pump. Since the throttle valve and the accelerating pump are operated separately by way of the respective cables, the throttle shaft can be rotated with a small torque and the speed control can be carried out exactly without delay.

    Abstract: An idling system for a multi-cylinder two-stroke engine as used in an outboard motor. Through a porting arrangement in the carburetor of at least one of the cylinders, the fuel supplied to that cylinder at idle and off-idle speed is reduced to a value so that the fuel-air ratio is too lean to fire. On rapid acceleration from idle speed, a charge of fuel is injected directly to the non-firing cylinder to provide smooth acceleration.

    Abstract: An improved two-barrel, multi-fuel carburetor. The carburetor comprises a main body portion in which the main fuel bowl is positioned and an auxiliary body portion in which an auxiliary fuel bowl is positioned. All of the fuel and air passages extending between the main and auxiliary body portions extend through faces of the respective body portions that are in facing engagement when the auxiliary body portion is affixed to the main body portion so as to eliminate the necessity for external plumbing. Also, an improved arrangement is provided for preventing the discharge of fuel from the auxiliary fuel discharge under some engine running conditions. The carburetor also employs a simplified accelerating pump discharge that uses only a single accelerating pump discharge tube that extends completely through one of the induction passages and which terminates in the other induction passage and has discharge ports in both induction passages.

    Abstract: An accelerator pump supplies additional fuel into a primary intake passage when a primary throttle valve is opened. A vacuum-operated actuator is responsive to a vacuum developed in a manifold passage upon cranking for actuating an accelerator pump plunger to discharge extra fuel into the primary intake passage. When the engine which is cold is to be started, such an additional supply of fuel assists the engine in getting started quickly. When the engine which is hot is to be restarted, the actuation of the accelerator pump clears away fuel vapor from the accelerator pump and a fuel feed passage connected therewith, thus readying the accelerator pump for normal operation. The primary throttle valve is operatively connected to the accelerator pump through a plate cam having a cam edge which is profiled such that the amount of extra fuel as supplied by the accelerator pump is proportional to opening of the primary throttle valve.

    Abstract: A fuel supply system for a mixture-compressing internal combustion engine employs a controllable differential pressure for the removal of air from a main air duct into a carrier air duct for proportioning the fuel to be used. The fuel system includes a fuel proportioning device and a vane pump for withdrawing a carrier air flow from the main air duct and for transporting the fuel through feed lines to the internal combustion engine. The pressure of the air at the fuel outlet and the differential pressure for fuel proportioning is controlled by a differential pressure valve located in the carrier air duct spaced from the main air duct. The differential pressure valve has a diaphragm dividing the interior of the valve into chambers with one side of the diaphragm acted upon by the air pressure in the carrier duct between the differential pressure valve and the main air duct. The other side of the diaphragm is acted upon by the pressure in the carrier air duct downstream from the differential pressure valve and also by a variable force depending on the parameters of the engine. To prevent pulsations in the air flow from disadvantageously affecting the differential pressure valve, the diaphragm in the valve is separated by a partition from a space in which such pulsations are effective. The air pressure in the carrier air duct upstream from the differential pressure valve acts in the space and the partition has a nozzle for admitting the air pressure to the one side of the diaphragm.
