A valve assembly for a motorcycle engine including a valve body and a plurality of reed valve constructions. The valve assembly is configured for receipt within an aperture of an engine wall extending between the crankcase and the cam chest of the engine. In particular, the valve assembly is configured to fit within a bearing support structure and seal around a pinion shaft.
Abstract:
The present invention provides an internal combustion engine component, such as a cylinder head or tappet block, which is adaptable to a variety of pushrod positions and angles. A large pushrod aperture is formed in the engine component. The aperture is large enough to accommodate one or more pushrods passing therethrough at a variety of different angles and positions. A composite pushrod hole adapter plate is attached to the engine component over the aperture. The adapter plate has one or more pushrod holes machined therethrough at desired angles and positions. A counter bore is preferably formed around each pushrod hole to provide a seat for the end of a pushrod housing. A plurality of different adapter plates, having pushrod holes and counter bores formed therein at different angles and positions, may alternatively be attached to the engine component, thereby adapting the engine component for use in combination with various different engine designs. The component may be provided along with one or more adapter plates as a kit which may be assembled onto an internal combustion engine such that a pushrod passes coaxially through each pushrod hole in the adapter plate and an end of a pushrod housing is positioned in the counter bore around the pushrod hole to form a seal between the adapter plate and the pushrod housing.

A butterfly type motorcycle carburetor including a housing having an induction passage and a venturi intermediate the ends of the passage, a butterfly valve assembly positioned in the induction passage downstream from the venturi and a fuel bowl mounted on the housing and forming a fuel reservoir below the induction passage. A main discharge tube is mounted in the housing with one end extending into the venturi in the induction passage and the other end into the fuel reservoir in the fuel bowl. An accelerator pump system is provided in the carburetor which includes a discharge nozzle that extends into the induction passage downstream from the venturi for directing fuel discharged from the nozzle toward the butterfly valve. An enrichment system is provided in the carburetor which can be selectively set at any position. A low speed air/fuel metering system is provided in the housing for low speed operation. A teardrop type air cleaner is mounted on the inlet end of the induction passage and includes an air directional cone axially aligned with the induction passage for directing filtered air into the induction passage. All of the air passing through the carburetor is filtered before entering the carburetor.

An engine crankcase and transmission assembly includes a transmission housing including a forward mounting portion and a crankcase including a rear-mounting portion configured for mounting to the transmission. The rear-mounting portion of the crankcase includes an upper section and a lower section spaced apart from the upper section so that the first transmission housing and the crankcase define a passage there between when mounted. An oil sump at a lower portion of the crankcase including an expanded section with an outer surface extending rearward beyond the rear mounting portion of the crankcase. An adapter provides for mounting to a second transmission housing. The crankcase receives interchangeable first and second oil routing devices with oil line fittings for receiving complementary oil lines. The first oil routing device includes first oil line fittings for receiving first oil lines extending toward oil fittings on the first transmission housing, and second oil routing device includes oil line fittings for receiving second oil lines extending toward oil fittings on the second transmission housing.

An integrated cam drive and oil pump assembly for motorcycle engines includes an oil pump body, which is connected with the engine crankcase, and has an oil passageway with a pump outlet portion communicating with an oil reservoir. A pinion gear is positioned in the interior of the oil pump body, is connected with the engine drive shaft for rotation therewith, and mates with an idler gear. A first cam drive gear is mounted on a first camshaft, and mates with the idler gear. A second cam drive gear is mounted on the first camshaft in an axially spaced relationship with the first cam drive gear. A third cam drive gear is mounted on a second camshaft, and mates with the second cam drive gear. A cam chest return gear has a first portion extending into the cam chest sump to draw oil therefrom, and a second portion mating with the idler gear adjacent the pump outlet portion of the oil passageway, such that oil drawn from the cam chest sump by the cam chest return gear flows from the cam chest sump, through the oil passageway, and into the oil reservoir.

Preferably, the at least one flexible member has a periphery so as to substantially cover opening(s) in the body when positioned adjacent to the body, and the at least one rigid member has a periphery so as to limit deformation of the at least one flexible member.
