Abstract:
Embodiments comprising a memory and a USB host controller coupled to the memory. The power efficiency of a USB during asynchronous transfers is increased by limiting usage of an asynchronous schedule stored in the memory when servicing a scheduled asynchronous transfer endpoint. Other embodiments may be described and claimed.
Abstract:
A bandage has a first sheet overlying a wound and located adjacent to it and a top sheet overlying the first sheet. The first sheet has a plurality of discrete passageways overlying the wound and adapted to communicate negative pressure established by a negative pressure source to the wound.
Abstract:
Reservoir characterization based on observations of displacements at the earth's surface. One method of characterizing a reservoir includes the steps of: detecting a response of the reservoir to a stimulus, the stimulus causing a pressure change in the reservoir; and determining a characteristic of the reservoir from the response to the stimulus. The response may be the pressure change which varies periodically over time, or a set of displacements of a surface of the earth. In another example, a method includes the steps of: detecting a set of displacements of the earth's surface corresponding to a pressure change in the reservoir; and determining a characteristic of the reservoir from the surface displacements. In yet another example, a method includes the steps of: detecting a set of displacements of the earth's surface corresponding to a change in volume of the reservoir; and determining a characteristic of the reservoir from the surface displacements.
Abstract:
An apparatus and a method are disclosed for forming an electrical component construction, the method comprising: obtaining a chip webstock containing a plurality of integrated circuit chips; obtaining a label webstock having printed label graphics thereon; cutting the chip webstock into a plurality of chip sections, each of the chip sections including at least one integrated circuit chip; indexing the chip sections from a high density on the chip webstock to a lower density; attaching each of a plurality of the different chip sections on a different label on the label webstock; obtaining an electrical component webstock comprising electrical components on a web; and attaching each of a plurality of the electrical components relative to a different one of the integrated circuit chips on the label webstock to permit an electrical communication therebetween.
Abstract:
Some embodiments of the invention include apparatus, systems, and methods to perform universal serial bus (USB) suspend and resume operations based on active communication between USB devices to improve power management. Other embodiments are described and claimed.
Abstract:
A method for providing comprehensive electrical usage and demand data is disclosed. An electric meter (20), central data server (28), and customer's computer (38) comprise an Internet-based energy information system according to certain of the prior art. It is assumed that either or both of the networks (24, 36) of this system are intermittently connected, as in a dial-up connection, or are expensive to connect continuously, thereby precluding the presentation of real-time data. The present invention provides continuous, real-time data to a utility customer's computer through a direct, low-latency network (102) to the meter. All data are presented in the form of web pages, and the posted pages (30) and the locally generated pages ( ) are hyperlinked to one another, so that the customer has seamless access to comprehensive usage and demand data thereby, enabling proactive management of energy utilization. Further disclosed is a pulse transponder/logger that implements the system at a site with a pulse-output electric meter. Finally disclosed are algorithms to determine electrical demand trends from pulse streams.
Abstract:
This invention is in the field of medical devices. Specifically, the present invention provides portable medical devices that allow real-time detection of analytes from a biological fluid. The methods and devices are particularly useful for providing point-of-care testing for a variety of medical applications.
Abstract:
This invention is in the field of medical devices. Specifically, the present invention provides fluidic systems having a plurality of reaction sites surrounded by optical barriers to reduce the amount of optical cross-talk between signals detected from various reaction sites. The invention also provides a method of manufacturing fluidic systems and methods of using the systems.
Abstract:
Expression of recombinant polysaccharide degrading enzymes in plants is described. In one embodiment, expression of the enzyme is preferentially directed to the seed of the plant. Expression may also be preferentially targeted to specific locations within the plant cell. Expression of cellulases in corn is shown. The result is the capacity to produce polysaccharide degrading enzymes in plants at commercially acceptable levels in a reliable manner. Methods of using same in production of ethanol is also described, including use of the plant-produced enzymes in the ethanol production process.
Abstract:
A user is authenticated for a relying computing entity (e.g., an enterprise) through an authentication broker service, wherein a trust relationship exists between the relying computing entity and the authentication broker service. The authentication broker service has a trust relationship with the relying computing entity and the authentication service that issued the identity of the user. The relying computing entity asks the authentication broker service to authenticate the identity of the user. The authentication broker service captures the user's credential (or directs the authentication service to do so) and sends an authentication response (e.g., a token) to the relying computing entity in order to authenticate the identity of the user to the relying computing entity. The relying computing entity verifies the authentication response based on the trust relationship between the relying computing entity and the authentication broker service.
