    摘要: A method for manufacturing a liquid crystal display element is provided which simultaneously achieves the object of cutting an optical film without causing degradation in appearance and the object of preventing the film from being broken in a continuous bonding process, and includes: providing a long sheet material including a laminate of an optical film containing a polarizer, a pressure-sensitive adhesive layer, and a carrier film temporarily bonded to the pressure-sensitive adhesive layer; cutting the long sheet material at predetermined intervals, while maintaining the continuity of the carrier film; peeling off the carrier film by a tensile force; and continuously bonding the resulting optical film pieces to liquid crystal panels, respectively, through the pressure-sensitive adhesive layer exposed by the peeling off, while feeding the resulting optical film pieces, wherein the cutting is performed to such a depth as to substantially reach the carrier film, and the carrier film is cut to a depth less than half of the thickness of the carrier film at least both end portions in the width direction of the carrier film.

    摘要: A method for manufacturing liquid crystal alignment film of the present invention comprises the steps of: (1) aligning a transparent substrate film by rubbing; (2) laminating a surface protective sheet having a release force of 0.5 N/50 mm or less onto an aligned face of the transparent substrate; (3) coating a liquid crystal material comprising a liquid crystal monomer and/or a liquid crystal polymer onto the aligned face after releasing the surface protective sheet; and (4) fixing the liquid crystal material after aligning the liquid crystal material. The method can make satisfactorily align the liquid crystal material on the substrate.

Since the optical compensation plate of the present invention has a thinner layer thickness in the central portion in response to a decrease in a cell gap in the central region of the liquid crystal cell, light leakage in the central region of the liquid crystal layer can be prevented well.

    摘要: To provide: a very thin elliptically polarizing plate having broadband and wide viewing angle; a simple method of producing the same; and an image display apparatus employing the elliptically polarizing plate. The elliptically polarizing plate of the present invention includes a polarizer, a protective layer formed on one side of the polarizer, a first birefringent layer serving as a λ/2 plate, and a second birefringent layer serving as a λ/4 plate. In the elliptically polarizing plate, the first birefringent layer and the second birefringent layer are each formed by using a liquid crystal material. Preferably, the first birefringent layer has a thickness of 0.5 to 5 μm and the second birefringent layer has a thickness of 0.3 to 3 μm.
