    Abstract: A detection system for a locomotive may include a plurality of sensors. An electronic control module may be in communication with, at least, the plurality of sensors and the locomotive. The control module may be configured to: monitor the plurality of sensors; receive an alert from one of the sensors of the plurality of sensors when one of the corresponding sensors is triggered; determine if the alert is a security concern; and operatively respond to the security concern by at least one of removing tractive effort to the locomotive, apply braking force to the locomotive, locking a door of the locomotive, locking a window of the locomotive, and transmitting a notification.

    Abstract: A method and a structure for an Autonomous Train Control System (ATCS) are disclosed, and are based on a plurality of autonomous train control elements that operate independent of each other. An autonomous train control element operates within an allocated track space, and based on predefined rules. Further, autonomous train control elements are paired together to exchange operational data. Pursuant to the predefined rules, an autonomous train control element acquires needed track space from a paired element, and relinquishes track space that is not required for its autonomous operation to a paired element. Further, an autonomous train control element is assigned a priority level with respect to the acquisition/relinquishment of track space.

    Abstract: A positive train control may comprise a plurality of different sensors coupled to a processor that determines whether there is an object on a track way and/or an anomaly of a track way, and if there is, provides an alert and/or a train control action. The plural sensors may include a visual imager, an infrared imager, a radar, a doppler radar, a laser sensor, a laser ranging device, an acoustic sensor, and/or an acoustic ranging device. Data from the plural sensors is geo-tagged and time tagged. Some embodiments of the train control employ track monitors, switch monitors and/or wayside monitors, and some employ locating devices such as GPS and inertial devices.

    Abstract: A system for controlling locomotive compressors in a multiple locomotive consist to optimize compressor life, cold weather operation, and maintenance schedules. Each compressor is associated with a controller than can communicate via an interface to a network with the corresponding controllers of the other compressors that are also interfaced to the network. A lead compressor controller may then issue commands to the other compressor controller to more efficiently restore pressure to the system, to implement improved usage schedules, or to manage maintenance intervals to maximize usage of each compressor during periodic maintenance intervals.
