Abstract:
Disclosed is a control circuit for establishing a reference level at the output of an optical modulator used to modulate the intensity of a laser beam. The modulated beam is sampled in the presence of a predetermined signal applied to the modulator to detect deviation from a known relationship; and means provided to correct for such deviation and re-establish said known relationship.
Abstract:
Vertical rate convergence circuit provides respective waveforms for control of vertical convergence winding energization during scanning of top raster half and bottom raster half. A pair of convergence windings are interconnected with sources of the respective waveforms in a circuit arrangement providing respective potentiometers for effecting master and differential control of the individual winding currents during each raster half scanning interval. Unidirectional current conducting means in association with one or both of the differential control potentiometers serve to reduce interaction between the control settings. In one embodiment, fixed terminals of each differential control potentiometer are linked to respective convergence coil terminals by individual diodes poled to effectively open-circuit one differential control potentiometer while placing the other differential control potentiometer in circuit with the coils during top scanning, and to effect complementary operation during bottom scanning.
Abstract:
The combination includes a cathode-ray tube in operational relationship with a magnetic deflection yoke. A platform is rigidly adhered to fixed areas on the external surface of the tube with a hardened adhesive material. The hardened adhesive material provides the sole support for the platform and a yoke mounted thereto. The novel method includes positioning a platform against a tube and injecting a first hardenable liquid adhesive material between at least portions of the positioned platform and the tube. The first adhesive material is permitted to harden and to fix the platform on the tube. A housing for a magnetic deflection yoke with the yoke therein is positioned adjacent the fixed platform, and the position of the housing is adjusted with respect to the fixed platform to obtain a desired operational relationship of the yoke and the tube. The housing with yoke therein is then mounted to the platform in the desired operational relationship.
Abstract:
The frequency bandwidth of a microwave apparatus using an avalanche diode operating in the anomalous mode is increased by providing a frequency insensitive current path at frequencies harmonically related to the desired frequency bandwidth.
Abstract:
A semiconductor assembly is presented which uses an encapsulated semiconductor device with a substantially U-shaped contact ribbon bonded thereto. The contact ribbon has elbows which extend beyond the surface of the semiconductor device. Upon the application of direct, downward pressure at the ends of the contact ribbon, the downward pressure is transferred to and absorbed by the encapsulating material. This assembly allows for very short lead length to the semiconductor device while at the same time shielding the semiconductor device from direct pressure.
Abstract:
A mount comprising a filamentary cathode held in longitudinal tension between two suspension members movable one with respect to the other; a fixed electrically-insulating support in contact with a surface of the cathode intermediate the ends thereof; and means for displacing the longitudinal pulling plane relative to the center-of-gravity of the cathode, whereby the cathode surface is forced against the support. Also included is a method of mounting a filamentary cathode in the mount.
Abstract:
A high-density information record comprises a stamped thermoplastic (e.g., vinyl) disc having a constant-width spiral surface groove, the center-to-center spacing of successive closely spaced convolutions of the groove spiral being substantially constant and independent of the recorded information. The recorded information appears as an information track constituting variations in the geometry of the groove bottom along its length. Playback apparatus employs a stylus having a tip conformed to be received in the disc groove in engagement with smoothly curved side walls of groove. As a discsupporting turntable rotates, the stylus rides in the groove passing over successive dimension-varying information track elements in the groove bottom, which serve to vary the capacitance presented between a conductive electrode incorporated in the stylus tip and a reference conductor (e.g., a conductive surface of the disc-supporting turntable). The capacitance variations occurring during playback are translated into electrical signal variations by appropriate circuitry. Per illustrative embodiment, inexpensively replicated video disc of appreciable playing time is subject to playback by abovedescribed techniques.
Abstract:
Fade-to-black video signal processing apparatus, used to fade picture portions of a video signal provided from a source not synchronized to available studio sync, employs an analog multiplier as a fader element. Apparatus to regenerate horizontal and vertical blanking interval pulses, arranged for synchronization with the video signal, is used to place the analog multiplier into full gain condition during the horizontal and vertical blanking intervals of the video signal.
Abstract:
A storage circuit includes in each stage a metal-nitride-oxidesemiconductor (MNOS) transistor whose threshold voltage is electrically alterable. When the transistors are all at the same threshold level, data bits may be dynamically loaded and stored in the circuit. These bits thereafter may be statically stored by retaining the MNOS transistor of a stage at its original threshold level if the bit stored in that stage is of one binary value and by placing the MNOS transistor at its other threshold level if the bit stored is of the other binary value.
Abstract:
A metal-insulator-metal device formed of materials such as gold, polystyrene and aluminum. In response to the application to the device of a forward voltage for a relatively long time interval, gold ions and electrons migrate from the gold and aluminum regions respectively and become trapped in the polystyrene. Upon removal of the voltage, the device acts as a light attenuator in a given light frequency range. The device may be switched to a second condition in which it is relatively transparent to light by applying thereto a relatively shorter duration, lower amplitude voltage pulse and also can be switched back to its light attenuating condition.
