Abstract:
Electrically and/or thermally conductive polymer composites and methods of preparing same are provided. In some embodiments, a method for preparing an electrically and/or thermally conductive polymer composite may include (1) mixing a polymer, a conductive particulate filler, and a solvent to form a non-conductive polymer solution or melt; (2) processing, the non-conductive polymer solution or melt to form a non-conductive polymer network composition; wherein the presence of solvent during three-dimensional network formation manipulates the polymer network structure; and (3) removing the solvent from the non-conductive polymer network composition to form an electrically and/or thermally conductive polymer composite. The altered polymer chain structure present in the non-conductive polymer network composition is maintained in the composite, and offsets the impact of particulate filler addition including increased modulus, decreased elasticity, and decreased elongation at break. This method enables development of composite materials with electrical/thermal and mechanical performance that can be tailored independently.

Abstract:
A radio transmitter having a RF signal source. A splitter receives an input signal from the signal source and divides that input signal into two output signals. Alternatively, two signal generators provide the two output signals. These output signals are fed into two phase shifters. A phase control signal is applied to each phase shifter so that the vector sum of the output signals represents the desired amplitude and phase of the desired transmitted signal. The outputs of both phase shifters are both frequency multiplied and amplified before recombining to form the transmitter output signal. Moreover, the outputs can be transmitted separately and combined at the receiver. Alternatively, in the case of two signal sources, the signal paths may be at different transmitter locations.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for cross-modal matching with polarimetric thermal image data is provided. According to one embodiment, the method comprises receiving a plurality of polarimetric thermal images of a face acquired by a polarimetric thermal imaging camera, extracting features of the face from each of the plurality of images to generate a plurality of feature vectors for each of the plurality of images, compositing the feature vectors for each of the plurality of images together to form composite feature vectors and cross-modally matching the composite feature vectors with other feature vectors, in order to determine whether the face matches a face represented by the other feature vectors.
Abstract:
A breech assembly for a gun having a barrel and a barrel extension extending rearwardly from the barrel. The barrel extension includes a throughbore aligned with the barrel as well as a radially inwardly extending annular abutment surface adjacent the rear end of the barrel extension. An elongated bolt is axially slidably received through the barrel extension throughbore when moved to a firing position. An expandable mandrel is mounted to the bolt so that the mandrel surrounds at least a portion of the bolt. An expansion pin is slidably mounted on the bolt and movable between a retracted position m winch the mandrel collapses onto the bolt and allows removal of the bolt from the barrel extension, and an inserted position in which at least a portion of the expansion pin is inserted into the mandrel and deflects the mandrel radially outwardly so that a rear end of the mandrel abuts against the abutment surface and locks the bolt to the barrel extension.

Provided are materials that include one or more cycloaliphatic polyamides integrated into or coated onto one or more structural fibers such as polyethylene fibers, aramid-fibers, glass fibers or carbon fibers. The resulting materials may be incorporated into composite articles suitable for use as protective equipment or structural layers.

A method for estimating the detonation performance of a material is executed by first preparing a small sample of the material to be tested. That sample is lased with a laser beam having sufficient energy to induce a plasma from a portion of the sample and to produce a shock wave, without detonation of the sample. The velocity of the shock wave is then measured at different times. And a characteristic shock velocity determined for the material based on the relationship between shock velocity and time. The characteristic shock velocity represents the velocity of the shock wave at the point in time when the shock front expands freely without additional energy input from the plasma or subsequent chemical reactions. The characteristic shock velocity can be used to determine whether a material is non-energetic or energetic; if it is energetic, the estimated detonation performance can be determined.

According to some embodiments, system and methods for image improvement comprise: receiving a plurality of frames of a given region of interest, the frames comprised of a plurality of pixels; determining, based on a quantum property of the frames, a normalized pixel intensity value for each pixel of each of the plurality of frames; and generating an improved image of the given region of interest based on the plurality of frames and the corresponding normalized pixel intensity values for the frames, the order of the image being two. Also embodiments for generating an image of a target illuminated by quantum entangled particles, such as, photons, are disclosed.

A magazine assembly having an elongated housing with a channel dimensioned to contain a plurality of stacked ammunitions between a first and second end of the housing. A spring loaded follower is mounted within the housing channel and is adapted to abut against one end of the stacked ammunition adjacent the second end of the housing and urge the stacked ammunition towards the first end of the housing. A tactile indicator assembly is mounted to the housing which cooperates with the follower to indicate the position of the follower between the ends of the housing and thus the amount of ammunition remaining in the magazine.

A flechette for use with a gun barrel having a tapered bore with a diameter at the initial bore section greater than the diameter at the emergent bore. The flechette includes a body constructed of a ductile material and having an elongated axis aligned with the axis of the tapered bore when positioned in the load end of the bore. The body also includes a cylindrical bulkhead as well as a bourrelet that are axially spaced from each other along the flechette and have an outside diameter substantially the same as the diameter at the initial bore section of the tapered bore. An elongated boom is attached at the tail end of the body while a penetrator is attached at the forward end of the body. Upon launch, both the bulkhead and bourrelet are compressed radially inward by the bore reduction so that the body is substantially cylindrical upon exit from the discharge end of the bore.
