Abstract:
An embodiment of the invention provides a method for identifying internal trauma in a patient for pneumothorax, hemothorax and abdominal hemorrhage using ultrasound in B-modes with radial, longitudinal, phased array probes, and with M-mode for verification of lung sliding and lung point. Identifications are based on statistical classifications of image features, including A-line, B-line, lung sliding, barcode, sky, seashore, and beach patterns. For blood pools, a polygon is fitted to the boundary, and a cellular automaton extracts local interference patterns due to cavity shape. Logic is then applied to extractions to identify the trauma. With B-mode, feature extraction involves specialized algorithms operating at frame rate for tracking of features such as ribs and rib shadows, pleural line and fast changes in peak intensities along the pleural line. Results are presented on screen by means of highlighting and textual cues.
Abstract:
The present invention in one embodiment provides a process of generating chlorine dioxide by reacting formamidinesulfinic acid (FSA) and sodium chlorite in an aqueous solution.
Abstract:
The objective of the present invention is providing optical systems for controlling with propagation of light beams in lateral and angular space, and through optical apertures. Said light beams include laser beams as well as beams with wide spectrum of wavelengths and large divergence angles. Said optical systems are based on combination of diffractive waveplates with diffractive properties that can be controlled with the aid of external stimuli such as electrical fields, temperature, optical beams and mechanical means.
Abstract:
An apparatus and method is presented for fabricating high quality one- or two dimensional diffractive waveplates and their arrays that exhibit high diffraction efficiency over large area and being capable of inexpensive large volume production. Employed is a generally non-holographic and aperiodic polarization converter for converting the polarization of a coherent input light beam that may be of a visible wavelength into a pattern of continuous spatial modulation at the output of said polarization converter. A photoresponsive material characterized by an anisotropy axis that may be formed or aligned according to polarization of said light beam is exposed to said polarization modulation pattern and may be coated subsequently with an anisotropic material overlayer.

A coaxial helical antenna for transmitting or receiving information through electromagnetic waves includes a first helical antenna comprising a first helix comprising a first diameter and a center cavity; a second helical antenna comprising a second helix comprising a second diameter, wherein the second diameter is smaller than the first diameter, and wherein the second helical antenna is seated within the center cavity of the first helical antenna; a shaped ground plate coupled to the first helical antenna and the second helical antenna; and two microstrip impedance transformers coupled to the first helical antenna, the second helical antenna, and the shaped ground plate.
Abstract:
A remote weapon system (RWS) for an unmanned ground vehicle (UGV) includes a dedicated weapon, multi-axis gimbal and ammunition handling capabilities with all operations functioning remotely and wirelessly. The RWS comprises system-level and component-level safety features which preclude the weapon of the remote weapon system from being operable if removed from the remote weapon system.
Abstract:
An ammunition projectile puller includes a body with one or more jaws to engage the projectile. The jaws can generally displace axially or radially relative to an axis of a through opening, and/or rotate around an axis transverse to the through axis, all within a predetermined range of motion. The jaws obtain a reliable purchase on the projectile to facilitate the extraction. The extracted projectile is cleared from the puller by the insertion of the next projectile to be extracted. The device is thus self-locating, self-locking, self-clearing, tolerant of projectile variation, operable with different projectile types and calibers, reliable, and efficient.
Abstract:
A recoilless gun system, comprising a gun assembly and associated ammunition for use with the gun assembly employs an integral barrel and a rear inserted ammunition round. The recoilless gun system may combine a laser initiator and a polymer cased ammunition to enable a lightweight system. In such embodiments, the cartridge case is made from a polymer that resists high pressure before extruding into small gaps.

An in vitro model of an in vivo gastrointestinal tract including an in vitro model of an in vivo small intestine including a plurality of fermentation vessels and an in vitro model of an in vivo large intestine including a plurality of fermentation vessels is provided. A method of simulating a biotransformation of food product through the human digestive tract using an in vitro model of an in vivo gastrointestinal tract is provided.
Abstract:
A remote weapon station (RWS) system for an unmanned ground vehicle (UGV) includes a dedicated weapon, multi-axis gimbal and ammunition handling capabilities with all operations functioning remotely and wirelessly. The RWS system is a gas powered, or self-powered, belt fed, rotating bolt lock weapon. In addition, the RWS is man-portable and air-droppable as the major subsystems may be latched together in the field without tooling or needing to make electrical connections.
