Abstract: Provided are an optical communication device and an optical communication system capable of preventing the costs of equipment from increasing for an optical communication network constructed including devices provided by different vendors or devices of different generations. An optical communication device 10 includes a plurality of optical transponders 15a, 15b, 15c, and 15d configured to perform mutual conversion between an optical signal and an electrical signal; a noise addition unit 14 configured to add noise that degrades signal quality to an input optical signal and output the resulting optical signal; a first optical switch configured to output an optical signal input from outside or the noise addition unit 14 to at least one of the plurality of optical transponders 15a, 15b, 15c, and 15d; and a second optical switch configured to directly or indirectly output an optical signal input from the at least one of the plurality of optical transponders 15a, 15b, 15c, and 15d to outside or the noise addition unit 14.

Abstract: An intention decoding apparatus and a decoding method that quickly and precisely analyze brain waves for decoding an intention decision without requiring an advance brain wave measurement for, for example, a calibration step, and an intention conveyance assist apparatus, an intention conveyance assist system, and a program using a decoding result of the intention decision in the brain. The intention decoding apparatus that analyzes brain waves to decode an intention performs a process to examine a dispersion by classifying brain wave data of event-related potentials corresponding to a plurality of stimulus events into any one stimulus event and the other stimulus events among the plurality of stimulus events, on all the stimulus events, and identifies a classification where the dispersion becomes maximum to identify the one stimulus event in the classification as the intention. The intention conveyance assist apparatus includes a presentation unit that presents a decoding result.

Abstract: The shape of a moving object is reconstructed from a shot image under relatively-strong ambient light or an embedded image is demodulated from a video image in which an image that may not be visually recognized is embedded to display the image. The image processing method of the present invention includes irradiating flashing light to the surface of the object based on a spreading signal obtained by spread spectrum modulation, receiving reflected light from the surface of the object to output the signal including the image information, a filtering for eliminating noise including a low-frequency component from the signal including the image information, inverse-spreading the signal after the filtering to demodulate the signal, and outputting, based on a signal obtained by the demodulation, an image reflecting the state of the surface of the object.

Abstract: Stable combustion becomes possible even in a super-lean combustion engine or an engine that carries out a large amount of EGR. In a spark discharge ignition promoting apparatus, non-thermal plasma is generated in a cylinder by a non-thermal plasma generating unit. The non-thermal plasma generating unit is provided at a location where a processed air-fuel mixture by the non-thermal plasma reaches a spark plug after an in-cylinder flow or where the air-fuel mixture exists around an electrode of the spark plug in a time when the air-fuel mixture keeps an easy combustion state. The spark plug ignites the processed air-fuel mixture by discharge of the spark plug at timing when the processed air-fuel mixture by the non-thermal plasma of an easy combustion state reaches the spark plug after an in-cylinder flow or timing when the air-fuel mixture of the easy combustion state exists around an electrode of the spark plug in the time when the air-fuel mixture keeps the easy combustion state.
