Abstract:
A spring-loaded bag connector having a spring-loaded valve and a housing comprising a fluid inlet portion and a fluid outlet portion. The spring-loaded bag connector is configured to connect with a fluid collection bag to generate a self-closing collection bag. Additionally, the spring-loaded bag connector is configured to couple with a second coupling element, such as a coupling connector, to facilitate the drainage and collection of waste to a fluid collection bag. Uncoupling of the bag connector and the second coupling element results in minimal fluid contamination on the outer surfaces of the bag connector system. The bag connector systems provided herein are included in medical appliances for body waste management.
Abstract:
A stoma extender includes a first end for insertion into a stoma for diverting stomal effluent into the stoma extender before the effluent exits the stoma; a second end for remaining external of the stoma, for providing a discharge exit for stomal effluent; and a conduit portion coupled between the first and second ends for communicating stomal effluent through the stoma extender, wherein the length of the conduit portion is adjustable stably, to permit adaptation of the stoma extender to an individual's stoma.
Abstract:
A wound dressing having anti-microbial activity comprises a first fiber capable of bonding with silver (1) cations. The wound dressing comprises a blend of the first fiber to which silver (1) cations are bonded and a second fiber which is substantially free from silver. The wound dressing comprises from 0.01 to 5.0 percent by weight of silver (1) cations, based on the weight of fiber.
Abstract:
An ostomy appliance comprises a pouch having first and second walls, with an inlet aperture in the first wall. A stoma seal is carried by the second wall, and is disposed generally in register with the inlet aperture for sealing against a stoma in use. An outer coupling element is coupled to the first wall and surrounds the inlet aperture. An inner coupling element for supporting the stoma seal, is coupled to the second wall and/or to the stoma seal. The outer coupling element surrounds a periphery of the inner coupling element. The stoma seal may be of an inflatable type or an insertable type. Manipulation tabs may be provided associated with the inner and outer coupling elements.
Abstract:
A bag connector system includes a first coupling element, with a self-closing seal and a housing having a fluid inlet port and a fluid outlet port, and a second coupling element, with a housing having a fluid inlet end and a fluid outlet end. The fluid inlet end is configured to displace the self-closing seal when inserted into the fluid outlet port of the first coupling element. A bag connector system optionally includes a locking mechanism to maintain the first coupling element and second coupling element in a coupled state. Uncoupling of the first and second coupling elements results in minimal fluid contamination on the outer surfaces of the coupling elements. The bag connector systems provided herein are included in medical appliances for waste management.
Abstract:
A coupling assembly for fastening an adhesive wafer to an ostomy appliance device, the coupling assembly including a captive connection between the adhesive wafer and ostomy appliance that permits captive relative displacement between the entire adhesive wafer and the entrance aperture of the appliance, to facilitate access to the wafer from the non-body-contacting side. The coupling assembly further comprises a fixation coupling for fixing the adhesive wafer in the operative position.
Abstract:
A wound dressing for an aspirated wound dressing system, with a wound interface region for contacting or facing a wound site; an aspiration port for receiving suction for aspiration of wound exudate; a liquid permeable pressure barrier disposed between the wound interface region and the aspiration port for substantially preventing application of negative pressure from the aspiration port to the wound interface region; at least one atmospheric vent for equalizing with atmosphere the pressure at the wound interface region; and a liquid sensor for sensing liquid within the wound dressing for controlling application of suction by the aspiration unit.
Abstract:
An antiseptic composition suitable for use on skin and wounds comprising a source of an antimicrobial agent and an agent which disrupts biofilms. More, particularly the invention relates to a composition capable of providing effective antimicrobial activity while at the same time avoiding wound and skin irritation and retardation of wound healing.
Abstract:
A fecal catheter or ostomy pouch made of an odor barrier material including a thermoplastic elastomer, odor barrier modifier and an antiblocking agent.
Abstract:
A staining composition for use in making biofilm detectable on viable tissue wherein the composition preferentially stains the biofilm and comprises a staining agent in a quantity effective to stain said biofilm and render it detectable.
