A carpet recycling machine includes a carpet-pile removal machine and a carpet-thickness identification means. The carpet-thickness identification means is incorporated in a carpet handling system that includes a conveyor. In use, carpet is placed pile down on one end of the conveyor which feeds the carpet in to the carpet-pile removal machine. The carpet is urged to pass the carpet-thickness identification means, which measures the thickness of the carpet's backing substrate. This measurement is used to control an offset setting means of the carpet-pile removal machine in order to set an offset between a blade and first roller. Thus the height that the blade cuts the carpet can be set for each piece of carpet processed. As the carpet continues past the carpet-thickness identification means, towards the carpet-pile removal machine, the carpet is urged into the carpet-pile removal machine to be separated in to pile and backing substrate.

Refrigerants from compressors are recycled at a fluoride-extracting station. Refrigerator bodies and doors are transferred to a double shaft shredder and a rolling crusher for crushing. Crushed materials are sorted out by wind force, by a self-discharge type iron remover made of permanent magnet and a cylindrical iron remover for magnetic separation. The device is placed in an enclosed workshop equipped with a multistage ventilation system, a protective device of nitrogen, a device for spraying, dedusting, and cooling, and an on-line detection and alarm control device for cyclopentane gas concentration, polyurethane dust concentration, and temperature. The method and device have low manufacturing and operating costs and are dustproof, explosion proof, environmentally friendly and has excellent recycling effects.

The equipment includes appropriate devices for carrying out the foregoing processes. A highly pure granulate fraction may be obtained, which may be fed to material utilization.

A process for recovering rubber from a tire, the tire including a rubber tread block, steel belting, and an inner liner that serves to hold the air pressure in the tire. The bead and sidewall may be removed from the tire leaving a loop of tread material. Next, the loop is placed on a rubber-separating machine to hold the loop in place. One or more cutting blades are lowered into position at the tread portion of the tire. Once the blades are in place, the tread loop is placed in motion around the rollers. As the blades contact the steel belts, the cutting blades separate the tread rubber from the reinforced rubber at the interface between the tread rubber and the steel belts.
