Abstract:
A filling system for syringes utilizing short needles to be filled from a vial having a thick septum is described. The system may be useful in any situation where the septum or vial stopper of a medication container is thicker than the usable length of the needle on the delivery device. Preferably, the syringe is filled just prior to use. The short needle includes an optional limiter which only permits a certain predetermined length of the needle cannula to protrude beyond the limiter a distance which limits penetration of the needle tip into both the skin and a vial stopper. The system and adapter may be useful for needles having a protrusion distance from approximately 0.5 mm to 3 mm, or any needle with a protrusion length shorter that the thickness of a septum to be accessed. Furthermore, a device is provided with shielding capabilities to shield the needle of the device.

A fluid transfer device for transferring fluid from a first fluid container to a second fluid container such as a piercing member protection device. The fluid transfer device can comprise a longitudinal axis A and a first connection part comprising a connector that connects to the first fluid container. The fluid transfer device can further comprise a second connection part rotatably mounted to the first connection part by a mounting element, and the second connection part can further comprise a threaded coupling that connects the second fluid container. The mounting element can enable turning of the second connection part with respect to the first connection part. Such a device can allow a user to safely turn e.g., a syringe after assembly to read a volume indication or similar.
Abstract:
Vial assemblages having a vial and a pre-attached fluid transfer device for use with a needleless syringe for enabling flow communication between the syringe and the vial. The fluid transfer device includes an elongated tubular flow member having a connector for sealing flow communication with the needleless syringe and a spike having a spike end for puncturing the vial for enabling flow communication between the needleless syringe and vial interior. The spike end is in intimate sealing contact with the vial's stopper. The fluid transfer device also includes a manually removable closure for initially sealing the connector and, on removal, exposing the connector.

A vial adapter is provided with a fitting portion which can be fitted into the head portion of a vial, and a hollow needle with a side hole. The base end portion of the needle is provided with a stopper contact portion which contacts the top surface of a stopper when the fitting portion is fitted in the head portion of the vial. When the fitting portion is fitted in the head portion of the vial, the stopper contact portion contacts the top surface of the stopper, and the fitting portion is fixed to the head portion of the vial by a claw engaging with the head portion of the vial, and further, the region of the side hole nearest the base end portion of the needle is positioned either roughly at the bottom surface of the stopper or inside of the stopper.

To provide a drug solution preparing kit which can be handled with ease in a substantially aseptic manner, and has no risk that a leakage of a drug solution such as a splash and a dispersion of an aerosol to an ambient environment occurs upon preparation of the drug solution There is provided a drug solution preparing kit including a pre-filled syringe and a transfusing tool, wherein the pre-filled syringe includes a sealing member which seals the tip end and can not be removed from the tip end, and that the transfusing tool includes a one-way valve which can discharge only gas from the system in an irreversible manner, and a filter which is provided so as to adjoin to the second communication channel with respect to the one-way valve.

An automated medication preparation system for preparing a prescribed dosage of medication in a drug delivery device. The system includes a plurality of stations for receiving, handling and processing the drug delivery device so that the prescribed dosage of medication is delivered to the drug delivery device and a transporting device that receives and holds more than one drug delivery device and moves the drug delivery devices in a controlled manner from one station to another station. The system is configured so that two or more separate drug delivery devices can be acted upon at the same time.

The present invention is a device capable of preventing an operation of establishing communication between a syringe and a vial from being forgotten by error. Holding means constituting a connection device includes: a syringe holding member to be attached to a syringe; a cannula holding member which includes a double-head cannula, is located at a retracted position retracted with respect to the syringe holding member in the pre-use state, and is advanced to an advanced position abutting on the syringe holding member in the use state; and separation preventing means which engages the syringe to prevent separation of the syringe from the syringe holding member in the state where the cannula holding member is located at the retracted position. When the cannula holding member is located at the advanced position, the separation preventing means releases an engagement state with the syringe to permit the separation of the syringe from the syringe holding member.

A vial adapter having a needle-free valve, a sharpened cannula used to perforate a vial's rubber stopper, and a circular array of claws of different lengths to engage vial closures of different diameters. The array of claws includes a first set of claws each having a first length extending inwardly from the periphery of the housing of the adapter and a second set of claws alternating with the first set of claws and each having a longer length. The second set of claws are mounted so that they deflect and plastically deform out of the way in the case where the adapter is engaged with a vial that exceeds a predetermined size. The housing includes a shroud that is at least as long as the sharpened cannula to protect medical personnel who use the adapter from inadvertent punctures. The needle-free valve includes a resiliently deformable piston element with a naturally open bore. The interior of the piston provides a fluid flow path through the adapter. In one embodiment, the first set of claws of the adapter may be used with a vial closure of at approximately 20 mm in diameter and the second set of claws may be used with a vial closure of approximately 13 to 17 mm in diameter.
