Abstract: A communication management resource detects or anticipates occurrence of wireless interference on a wireless channel allocated to a wireless base station to communicate with multiple communication devices. In response to the detected wireless interference, the communication management resource determines a group of the multiple communication devices receiving data of a particular type from the wireless base station. To reduce the wireless interference, the wireless base station notifies the communication devices in the group to operate in a device-to-device communication mode as an alternative path of conveying the particular type of data to the group of communication devices. Thus, during times of wireless interference, instead of communicating a message to each of the wireless communication device in the group, the wireless base station communicates a wireless communication to a first communication device in the group; the first communication device forwards the communication to a second communication device in the group.

Abstract: Millimeter wave access system and method for device-to-device communications (D2D) are described. A method includes registering, by one or more Citizens Broadband Radio Service (CBRS) devices (CBSDs) with a millimeter wave spectrum access system (MAS), establishing, by mobile devices, connections with a CBSD, receiving D2D communication mode capability from the mobile devices, receiving millimeter wave spectrum allocation requests for D2D communication from a number of the plurality of mobile devices, determining, by the MAS, millimeter wave spectrum allocation for the requests, sending, by the MAS and the CBSD, appropriate millimeter wave spectrum allocations to each of requesting mobile device and enabling D2D communication mode, establishing D2D communication links with other mobile devices to exchange data, monitoring idle time percentage on the D2D communication links, informing when D2D communication is not needed based on the idle time percentage, and releasing allocated millimeter wave spectrum when D2D communication is not needed.

Abstract: In a wireless communications system, such as a 5G CBRS system, a Spectrum Access System (SAS) assigns portions of the (CBRS) spectrum to associated base stations (CBSDs). In some embodiments, a central spectrum-database server receives information about spectrum allocations made by two or more different SASs operated by different companies and tabulates that information in a combined spectrum database that each SAS can independently retrieve for use in allocating bandwidth to its CBSDs. In some implementations, the messages between each SAS and multiple associated CBSDs are transmitted via a domain proxy that snoops on multiple spectrum-allocation-related messages (e.g., spectrum grant/revocation messages and/or heartbeat messages) to gather the information to be transmitted to the server, where the information does not include any company-or network-sensitive information.

Abstract: A communication system includes a first wireless base station supporting communications with multiple mobile communication devices. The first wireless base station is limited to an amount of power it is able to consume. For example, the wireless base station receives power consumption information from a power consumption manager. To control power consumption with respect to the received power consumption information, the wireless base station determines (such as based on an estimation, calculation, measurement, etc.), an amount of a power consumption by the wireless base station while communicating with multiple mobile communication devices. The wireless base station adjusts wireless communications transmitted from the wireless base station to maintain the power consumption of the wireless base station with respect to a power consumption limit as indicated by the received power consumption information.

Abstract: Various embodiments comprise systems, methods, and apparatus enabling communications between a mobile network node (e.g., base station, eNB, gNB) and a large number of Internet of Things (IoT) devices by defining IoT device groups comprising at least one primary IoT device and a plurality of secondary IoT devices. The mobile network node communicates directly with group primary IoT devices via a mobile network protocol, and the group primary IoT devices further communicate with the secondary IoT devices via a local wireless protocol. Identifiers are used to identify secondary IoT devices that are the source of transmitted uplink messages, or the target/destination of downlink messages. Identifiers may be bundled or concatenated such that the primary IoT devices can manage messages or other communications to/from the base station, which in turn handles all backhaul services necessary to support the group of IoT devices.

Abstract: In a (5G CBRS) network having a (CBSD) base station communicating with a (SAS) bandwidth manager via a cable modem (CM), the CM maintains a long timer and a short timer for each bandwidth allocation to the CBSD. When the CM receives a heartbeat message from the CBSD, the CM re-starts the long and short timers and transmits the heartbeat message to the SAS. When the short timer expires, the CM re-starts the short timer and transmits a copy of the stored heartbeat message to the SAS. When the long timer expires, the CM stops transmitting a copy of the stored heartbeat message to the SAS. In this way, the CM effectively extends the time limit before the SAS will de-allocate bandwidth from the CBSD to handle situations where the CBSD is temporarily unable to send heartbeat messages to the SAS even though the CBSD still needs the allocated bandwidth.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus for enhancing performance of a wireline communication network backhaul for wireless nodes based on data traffic and node characterization. In one embodiment, the node comprises a small-cell or other wireless base station (e.g., one utilizing unlicensed or quasi-licensed spectrum such as CBRS or C-Band) that is backhauled by a DOCSIS system within a managed HFC network, and the methods and apparatus utilize such factors as traffic load, geographic or topological location, node technology type, and user device profile for each node to determine scheduling of traffic over the wireline transmission medium used for the delivery of services. In another embodiment, the foregoing factors can be weighted for further determination related to an assignment of the time slots or other resources for the delivery of services.

Abstract: The present invention relates to methods and apparatus for managing uplink resource grants in wireless networks. An exemplary method embodiment includes a mobile terminal: receiving from a base station a first uplink resource grant schedule including a first uplink resource grant and a second uplink resource grant, the first uplink resource grant giving the mobile terminal an exclusive right to use a first set of resource blocks on a recurring basis and the second uplink resource grant giving the mobile terminal a non-exclusive right to use a second set of resource blocks on a recurring basis; and using, by the mobile terminal, the second set of resource blocks to transmit data to the base station during at least a first time interval of the first period of time, said first period of time including multiple time intervals during which the mobile terminal has been granted the right to transmit data.
