Abstract:
In one embodiment, an apparatus can include a monitoring module configured to send an indicator representing that performance of a virtual resource satisfies a threshold condition. The apparatus can also include a management module configured to move a set of virtual resources including the virtual resource from a first portion of data center hardware resources to a second portion of data center hardware resources mutually exclusive from the first portion of data center hardware resources in response to the indicator. The management module can be configured to define the set of virtual resources based on an operational relationship between the virtual resource and the remaining virtual resources included in the set of virtual resources.
Abstract:
A novel antibiotic designated herein MM 17880 may be obtained from the cultivation of strains of Streptomyces olivaceus and related organisms. In addition to being potent antibacterial agents, MM 17880 and its salts inhibit .beta.-lactamase obtained from many organisms so that it shows a synergistic antibacterial effect when combined with .beta.-lactam antibiotics.

Abstract:
In one embodiment, a processor-readable medium can be configured to store code representing instructions to be executed by a processor. The code can include code to receive an indicator that a set of virtual resources has been identified for quarantine at a portion of a data center. The code can also include code to execute, during at least a portion of a quarantine time period, at least a portion of a virtual resource from the set of virtual resources at a quarantined portion of hardware of the data center that is dedicated to execute the set of virtual resources in response to the indicator and not execute virtual resources associated with non-quarantine operation.
Abstract:
A transmission system that is used in conjunction with a microturbine engine for propelling an aircraft body, such as a propeller-based fixed-wing aircraft or a rotor-based vertical lift aircraft, or for a wide variety of other applications. The output shaft of the microturbine engine preferably operates at a rotational speed in a range between 72,000 RPM and 150,000 RPM with an output power between 150 HP and 5 HP (and most preferably operates in an extended range between 50,000 RPM and 200,000 RPM with an output power between 200 HP and 5 HP). The transmission system includes a traction drive stage that provides a reduction ratio preferably having a value of at least 7, and most preferably greater than 9. The transmission system is of small-size preferably having a maximum diameter less than twelve inches. Preferably, the input stage of the transmission system is self-equilibrating such that first shaft can be supported without bearings and is operably coupled to the output shaft of the microturbine engine by an outside diameter piloted spline coupling mechanism. For vertical lift applications, a single traction stage along with a bevel gear assembly or other shaft transmission mechanism can be used to provide the necessary RPM reduction.
Abstract:
Glass-to-metal hermetic seal of the compression type in which a central metal eyelet is sealed to a central conductor, the eyelet being bondable to and having a coefficient of expansion characteristic compatible with glass in which the eyelet is made non-ferromagnetic to eliminate unwanted induction heating and losses in pulsatory current carrying operation. The method of forming the seal is disclosed.
Abstract:
A gear box for a drive head of a conveyor comprises a casing 11 and a gear train contained within the casing 11 and including a plurality of shafts on which gear wheels are mounted, the shafts being rotatable about parallel axes and all the axes 16 being located in a common plane, with at least an output shaft having its axis of rotation off-set with respect to the common plane, whereby the at least one off-set axis is located above or below the common plane.
Abstract:
The compound of the formula (VI): ##STR1## pharmaceutically acceptable salts and pharmaceutically acceptable esters thereof, are useful for their antibacterial activity and for their .beta.-lactamase inhibitory activity. They may be combined in a synergistically effective amount with a penicillin or cephalosporin for the treatment of bacterial infections in humans and animals.
Abstract:
This invention provides a process for the preparation of salts of the .beta.-lactamase inhibitory antibiotics MM4550A, MM13902 and MM17880, which are the compounds of the formulae (I)-(III), respectively: ##STR1## which process comprises cultivating a strain of Streptomyces gedanensis and isolating a salt of at least one of MM4550A, MM13902 and MM17880.
