Abstract:
A method is provided for preserving tissues during removal, storage and implantation into a subject by enhancing cell viability in a population of graft cells during the transplantation procedure. The method includes selecting an effective dose of a polycylic phenolic compound in a physiologically acceptable formulation and exposing at least the population of graft cells to the formulation containing the compound within a time that is effectively proximate to the transplantation procedure so as to confer cytoprotection on the population of graft cells.
Abstract:
The present invention concerns methods and compositions for enhancing the cytoprotective effects of polycyclic phenolic compounds through the synergistic interaction with anti-oxidants.
Abstract:
A timing sprocket for a camshaft is provided with a number of positioning holes equally spaced in a circle about its axis of rotation. A vernier plate connected to the camshaft is provided with alignment holes equally spaced in a corresponding circle as the circle of positioning holes but at a slightly greater or lesser angle. Alignment of a positioning hole and an alignment hole using a positioning pin permits incremental rotational adjustment of the sprocket wheel relative to the camshaft for angular increments equal to the difference between the angles of the positioning holes and the angles of the alignment holes.
Abstract:
An apparatus includes a valve and an actuator. The valve has a portion movably disposed within a valve pocket defined by a cylinder head of an engine. The valve is configured to move relative to the cylinder head a distance between a closed position and an opened position. The portion of the valve defines a flow opening that is in fluid communication with a cylinder of an engine when the valve is in the opened position. The actuator is configured to selectively vary the distance between the closed position and the opened position.
Abstract:
An embodiment provides a method for managing a hydrocarbon asset. The method includes creating an interactive community of agents, wherein each agent comprises code and functional data structures configured to direct a processor to access resource on a network. At least one of the agents is configured to be a workflow agent, wherein the work-flow agent is configured to pursue a plan to accomplish a goal. The work-flow agent is provided with sensors to determine environmental conditions. The workflow agent is provided with the ability to communicate with other intelligent agents. The workflow agent is configured to select the plan based, at least in part, on information obtained from the sensors.
Abstract:
Disclosed are methods for identifying molecular interactions between DNA sequences and proteins in vivo. The methods of the invention employ known or suspected DNA-binding proteins and genomic DNA in a plasmid library. Interacting molecules direct the expression of a reporter gene, the expression of which is then assayed. Also disclosed are genetic constructs useful in practicing the methods of the invention.
Abstract:
A system and method of providing associations between resources and actions in a network includes the steps of providing, in a database schema an action object class defining the structure and attributes of actions available in the network. During operation, action objects are created and stored in a database. When a user enters the system, an internal list is created at that user, identifying the resources available to that user and the action objects capable of being performed on those resources. When a user selects an resource object, the action objects associated with that resource object are displayed, the user selects the action, and the action is performed at the resource. In one example the selection of an action objects cause an associated application to be launched. Each action object represents a string of executable code. The executable code may either be hardcoded in the network software, such that action objects are created at network startup, or alternatively may be linked to the network via an external code module.
Abstract:
A directory services system includes a resource object, such as an application object for accessing a resource associated with the resource object. Attributes of the resource object contain licensing control information. The licensing attributes may be used by executables to control access by a user to properly licensed instances of a resource corresponding to the resource object. Also, a utility may be provided to manage the licensing attributes in the resource object. A licensing function may thus control a resource, via its resource object in the directory services database. Licensing maybe easily implemented by setting a new disabling attribute in the object.
Abstract:
A method is provided for preserving tissues during removal storage and implantation by enhancing cell viability in a population of graft cells during the transplantation procedure The method includes selecting an effective dose of a cyclopentanophenanthrene compound having a terminal phenol A ring in a physiologically acceptable formulation and exposing at least one of: a donor at an effective dose prior to removal of the cells; the population of cells in an ex vivo storage medium;, and a recipient tissue at an effective time prior to association with the donor graft cells; so as to confer cytoprotection on the population of graft cells.
