Abstract:
The invention relates to a method for priming a substrate by contacting the substrate with a primer fed from a primer source and depositing the primer on the substrate. Compared to other priming methods, the claimed priming gives better results because the deposition is carried out electrostatically.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a paper or paperboard substrate having barrier properties which substrate comprises a first fiber based layer, a second layer comprising microfibrillated cellulose and a third layer comprising a polymer. The invention further relates to a process for the production of said substrate and a package formed of said substrate.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a process for the production of microfibrillated cellulose wherein the process comprises the steps of, providing a slurry comprising fibers, adding the slurry to an extruder, treating the slurry in the extruder so that the fibers are defibrillated and microfibrillated cellulose is formed. The invention further relates to a microfibrillated cellulose produced.
Abstract:
A process for producing microfibrillated cellulose comprises providing a slurry comprising cellulosic fibers, treating the slurry with an enzyme, mechanically treating the slurry so that the fibers are disintegrated wherein the mechanical treatment and the treatment with the enzyme is performed simultaneously in a single treatment step. In this way it is possible to produce microfibrillated cellulose (MFC) in an improved and energy efficient way. A microfibrillated cellulose is produced according to the process.
Abstract:
A surface treatment composition for paper, board or other fibrous webs. The composition of the invention comprises particles which comprise an active material and a supporting material. The active material comprises a salt of a multivalent metal, such as a divalent or trivalent metal. In accordance with the invention, the supporting material is adapted to release the active material from the particles when subjected to heat and/or pressure and/or a change in pH. Consequently, the active material's adverse effects on the rheology of the composition are avoided while its desired effects on the surface characteristics are retained or enhanced.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a paper or paperboard substrate having barrier properties which substrate comprises a first fiber based layer, a second layer comprising micro-fibrillated cellulose, a third layer comprising a heat sealable polymer, and a fourth layer comprising aluminum, aluminum oxide or titanium dioxide. The invention further relates to a process for the production of said substrate and a package formed of said substrate.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a method for providing a surface of a fiber based substrate with a barrier layer wherein the barrier layer is formed by depositing nanofibers on the surface by the use of electrospinning or meltspinning and wherein the film is formed by post treatment of the substrate. The invention further relates to a substrate comprising such a carrier layer.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a composition comprising microfibrillated cellulose, mono-, di- or oligo-saccharides and a pigment in order to achieve a composition with improved rheological properties such as a low viscosity even at high dry content. The present invention further relates to process for the production of said composition.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a process for purifying a slurry comprising cellulose, such as microfibrillated cellulose, wherein the process comprises the following steps: —providing a slurry comprising cellulose and liquid, —subjecting the slurry to an electric field inducing the liquid of the slurry to flow, —separating the liquid from the cellulose thus obtaining a liquid depleted slurry, —adding a washing liquid, such as an organic solvent, to the liquid depleted slurry—subjecting the liquid depleted slurry to an electric field inducing the washing liquid of the slurry to flow and—separating the washing liquid from the cellulose, thus obtaining a purified cellulose. The invention also relates to cellulose such as microfibrillated cellulose obtainable from said process.
Abstract:
Method for controlling contact area of a paper or board substrate or a product thereof, by depositing electrostatically a trace amount of particles comprising boundary lubricants to form one or more layers on the surface of the substrate. The boundary lubricants are deposited to the target surface solubilized or dispersed in a suitable solvent or carrier. The particles comprise an agent providing one or more effects selected from: lyophilicity, lyophobicity, hydrophobicity, hydrophilicity, lipophilicity, lipophobicity, oleophobicity, oleophilicity, and boundary lubrication. Also, a paper or board substrate treated according to the foregoing method. The use of electrostatic deposition of coating materials described herein gives improved control on contact and surface characteristics.
