Abstract:
The invention is directed to a method for preparing sulfated psyllium derivatives for use to reduce the risk of chronic human diseases. The sulfation of psyllium was carried out with sulfur, trioxide, pyridine, dimethylformamide and chlorosulfonic acid in pyridine. Six total sulfated psyllium derivatives named SP1, SP2, SP3, SPR1, SPR2, and SPR3 were prepared and evaluated for their morphological and rheological properties, and bile acid-binding abilities. The invention offers a novel approach to obtaining sulfated psyllium derivatives for use in functional foods or supplemental and pharmaceutical products to increase health benefits.

Abstract:
The present invention provides a polypeptide TF1 for inhibiting type-2 Shiga-toxin activity, an encoding gene for the same and use thereof. The present polypeptide is named TF1 (also known as P1); its amino acid sequence is shown in SEQ ID NO: 1 in the sequence list. The polypeptide P1 can be prepared into medicine for preventing and/or treating diseases caused by type-2 Shiga toxin or the pathogens which produce type-2 Shiga toxin.

Abstract:
A real-time, on-line method and analytical system for determining halohydrocarbons in water which operate by (1) extracting on-line samples; (2) purging volatile halohydrocarbons from the water (e.g., with air or nitrogen); (3) carrying the purge gas containing the analytes of interest over a porous surface where the analytes are adsorbed; (4) recovering the analytes from the porous surface with heat (thermal desorption) or solvent (solvent elution) to drive the analytes into an organic chemical mixture; (5) generating an optical change (e.g., color change) in dependence upon a reaction involving the analytes and a pyridine derivative; and (6) measuring optical characteristics associated with the reaction to quantify the volatile halogenated hydrocarbon concentration.

Abstract:
The invention includes an oral care composition that reduces and/or eliminates the perception of tooth sensitivity. The composition includes an adherent material and silica particles having an average particle size of about 8 microns or less. The silica particles are present in the composition in an amount of about 5% by weight. Also included within the scope of the invention are related methods, such as methods of occluding a dentin tubule.
Abstract:
The invention pertains to a coating apparatus and method in which most of the relative movement between a dispensing head and the substrate to be coated is provided by the coating head. The moving head configuration reduces the system footprint and diminishes leveling problems. A powered shuttle mechanism carries a dispensing head above a substrate to be coated while riding on a bearing located underneath the chuck holding the substrate thereby providing rigidity and reducing the system footprint. Chuck support is designed to accommodate anticipated vertical sag in the dispensing head by supporting the chuck at points along its periphery thereby permitting the chuck to sag in conjunction with the dispensing head. The shuttle mechanism is equipped with means for automatically adjusting the height of the dispensing head with respect to substrate to compensate for substrate placement error, substrate dimensional variation, and mechanical drift in the mechanical machine parts. Coating consistency is enhanced using such height adjustment. A part of the apparatus containing the fluid delivery equipment and in communication with the dispensing head may be placed on a cart and removably attached to the rest of the apparatus. There is a utility station comprising equipment for cleaning and priming the dispensing head which may be located on the removable cart. A pump in addition to main remote pumping means may be integrally mounted on the dispensing head to more precisely control fluid flow to the dispensing head. The chuck may be configured to be micro deformable so as to maintain the surface of a substrate upon it at a constant height. Fluid may be dispensed along openings of selected lengths along the length of the dispensing head using die lips attached to the dispensing head or by cutting a plurality of slots in a single dispensing head.
Abstract:
Disclosed are a puncture guider (02, 2) and a puncture guiding system, wherein a puncture channel (80) automatically adapted to the diameter of a puncture needle (03) can be realized in the puncture guider (02, 2). The puncture guider (02, 2) is used for connecting to a puncture support, and the puncture guider (02, 2) comprises a depth block (21) and a push plate (22), wherein the depth block (21) comprises: a connection structure for being connected to the puncture support, and a first guiding wall (211) and a second guiding wall (212), which are connected to each other and form an included angle; and the push plate (22) comprises: a needle groove plate (222), and an adaptive component. A first end face (2221) of the needle groove plate (222), and the first guiding wall (211) and the second guiding wall (212) enclose a puncture channel (80), and under the action of the adaptive component, a displacement can occur between the first end face (2221) of the needle groove plate (222) and the first guiding wall (211) and second guiding wall (212), so that the puncture channel (80) can change automatically according to the specification of the puncture needle (03), thereby automatically adapting to puncture needles (03) with different needle diameter specifications. The puncture guiding system comprises a puncture support and a puncture guider (02, 2).
