    摘要: A hydrophilic, aromatic-based monomer has an aromatic group substituted with at least one hydrophilic substituent and a reactive functional group. Polymers comprising such a hydrophilic, aromatic-based monomers avoid or reduce the risk of forming vacuoles of absorbed water. Furthermore, such polymers have high refractive index, and, thus, are advantageously used for making ophthalmic devices, such as intraocular lenses, contact lenses, corneal rings, corneal inlays, and keratoprostheses.

    摘要: Hydrophilic, arylsiloxy-containing macromonomers have at least a terminal hydrophilic group attached to an arylsiloxy group. The aryl groups attached to siloxy groups can be substituted with other hydrophilic groups. Polymers comprising such hydrophilic, arylsiloxy-containing macromonomers avoid or reduce the risk of forming vacuoles of absorbed water. Furthermore, such polymers have high refractive index, and, thus, are advantageously used for making ophthalmic devices, such as intraocular lenses, contact lenses, corneal rings, corneal inlays, and keratoprostheses.

    摘要: Monomeric units useful in reducing the modulus of hydrogels are disclosed. Silicone hydrogels including the subject monomeric units are especially useful in the formation of biomedical articles such as silicone hydrogel contact lenses. ##STR1## wherein: A is an activated unsaturated group; R and D independently are alkyl, alkylene or haloalkyl groups having 1 to 10 carbon atoms wherein said carbon atoms may include ether linkages therebetween; R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 are independently selected from: alkyl or haloalkyl groups wherein ether linkages may be included between carbon atoms; siloxane groups; and carbocyclic ring groups having from 6 to 18 carbon atoms; m is an integer from 1 to 500; n is an integer from 1 to 20; x and y are 0 or 1; z is 1 or 2; and x+y+z=3; so long as at least one of R.sub.1 or R.sub.2 is an alkyl group having from 1 to 10 carbon atoms.
