    摘要: A field emitter array comprises an array of aligned metallic, conductive rotubules extending from a conductive base. The array is typically made by cutting a matrix comprising the aligned microtubules into sections, usually normal to the tubule alignment axis. One end surface of a section is etched or otherwise treated to remove the matrix, but not the tubules. That end surface is then provided with a conductive coating and fixed to a contact. The other end surface of that section is then also treated to remove the matrix material and leave the tubules extending from the conductive metal base. Field emitter arrays made according to the present invention provide a greater brightness than conventional field emitter arrays.

    摘要: A coating composition contains an effective amount of between 5 and 70 percent by weight of metalized tubules which are or which encapsulate a composition known to have an antifouling effect or known to possess antimicrobial, herbicidal algaicidal or pesticidal (biocidal) properties. When the coating composition is applied to a surface to be protected, a toxic surface environment is formed. The tubules can be used alone or the tubules can contain in the hollow core a secondary or co-biocidal agent or mixtures of these agents. When desired, the metal coating layer metalizing the tubule can be a non-biocidal metal. In those cases, protection is provided by the biocidal agent carried in the core.

Also disclosed is an alternate method for making a conformal antenna on a surface by spraying a first material comprising a polymer matrix onto the surface and simultaneously spraying a second material comprising a plurality of metalized tubules and a coagulant onto the surface, wherein the first and second materials mix together during the spraying. A further method for making a conformal antenna includes spraying a first material comprising a polymer matrix and a plurality of metalized tubules onto the surface and simultaneously spraying a second material comprising an aqueous electroless plating bath onto the surface, wherein the first and second materials mix together during the spraying.

    摘要: The wall thickness of lipid microtubules are controlled by selecting a methanol/water system and determining the required amount of a lipid to form the desired wall thickness. The lipid is dissolved in a small portion of the heated methanol and that clear solution is added to the remaining amount of the heated methanol/water system. By slowly cooling the solution, microtubules are formed which have the desired wall thickness. Preferred microtubules have a wall thickness of just 2 bilayers and they are robust so they can be further coated. They can be made with a large aspect ratio and with lengths of greater than 250 microns. The process permits production of microtubules in very high yields.

    摘要: A high resolution, cathodoluminescent display screen or device and a method of producing such a display device is disclosed. The display screen includes a plurality of channel structures having longitudinal ends, a transparent medium formed in a plane to which the channel structures are fixed with one longitudinal end thereof oriented toward the plane of the transparent medium, and a cathodoluminescent material deposited on the channel structures whereby incident electrons and light generated by the incident electrons are directed along the channel structures. Preferably, the display screen also includes a mechanism for removing built up charge from the display screen, such as conductive channel structures and/or a conductive transparent medium. The cathodoluminescent material can include phosphors, and for producing a color display, different materials producing different colors would be used. In one preferred embodiment, the channel structures are tubules. Alternately, the channel structures can be channel plates or other structures providing channeling structures. In the preferred embodiment, the transparent medium is glass. However, the transparent medium could be quartz or some other equivalent material. In order to provide a display device the display screen is then mated with an addressable electron source for generating electrons incident on the cathodoluminescent material of selected channel structures. Preferably, the electron source means includes a field emitter array with a reflecting surface.
