The inner surface of the bottom of the rotor yoke, and the inner cylindrical surface of the cylindrical portion of the rotor yoke form a right-angled portion with which the right-angled outer edge portion of the drive magnet unit is engaged. The peripheral surface of the right-angled portion defines a through-hole in the bottom which is engaged with the hub. A blank is formed of a sintered alloy by sintering a mixture of powdered materials including powdered aluminum, and at least one of powdered silicon, powdered magnesium, and powdered chromium. This blank, being made of the sintered body, can be molded into a shape close to the final shape of a rotary polygon mirror. For example, a mirror surface can be molded into a desired shape in advance. Therefore, the final product of the rotary polygon mirror can be obtained with ease by subjecting the blank to a simple finishing process by cutting.

A vane compressor has a vane back pressure adjustment device including back-pressure chambers defined in a vane-supporting rotor and surrounded by vanes and side blocks secured to axial ends of a cylinder. The back-pressure chamber has axial ends disposed to follow a path against each of the side blocks when the rotor rotates. The path is divided into at least one high-pressure zone in which the vanes move across a pump outlet defined in the cylinder, and at least one normal-pressure zone which is the remainder of the path. In the normal-pressure zone, oil grooves defined in surfaces of the side blocks which face the rotor and supplied with oil from an oil sump in the vane compressor are in communication with the back-pressure chambers, to thereby maintain the oil pressure in the back-pressure chambers at a pressure level in the oil sump. In the high-pressure zone, the back-pressure chambers are out of communication with the oil grooves so that the oil fed into the back-pressure chambers is confined therein, except through a restrictor means. When the vanes move across the pump outlet, the vanes enter the high-pressure zone to trap oil in the back-pressure chambers to thereby elevate the oil pressure in the back-pressure chambers to a high level. Therefore, the vanes are prevented from being retracted deeply into vane slits in the rotor and then popping out into hitting engagement with the cylinder.

The oil separator comprises a pair of fluid-traversable upper and lower plates disposed within the discharge pressure chamber, an oil separating element interposed between said upper and lower plates, which preferably has a reticulate or spongy structure having pores communicating with each other, and a hollow cylindrical guide element fitted in the casing in a fashion covering the inner peripheral wall of the discharge pressure chamber but a lower part thereof, said guide element having a depression formed in a peripheral surface thereof and defining a passage for guiding a gaseous medium toward the compressor outlet, whereby oil separation takes place at multiple places, resulting in high rate of oil separation.
