The polymerized microstructured surface comprises the reaction product of a polymerizable resin composition comprising 10% to 100 wt-% of at least one biphenyl di(meth)acrylate monomer. The di(meth)acrylate monomer comprises a core biphenyl structure having two aromatic rings connected with a C—C bond. The biphenyl di(meth)acrylate monomer preferably comprises a sufficient amount of ortho and/or meta(meth)acrylate substituents such that the monomer is a liquid at 25° C.
Abstract:
Described herein is a dicarboxylic acid compound of formula (I): Wherein: R3 comprises an aryl group, R2 is an alkylene group comprising 1 to 6 carbon atoms, n is 0 or 1, R1 is H or CH3, and X is S or NZ, wherein Z is H, an alkyl group comprising 1 to 4 carbon atoms or a phenyl group. Such compounds can be used to modify the surface of inorganic particles. These modified inorganic particles may then be advantageously used in polymerizable resins to increase the refractive index of the resulting composite, while enabling good flow properties of the polymerizable composition.
Abstract:
An optical film includes a plurality of first layers disposed on a plurality of second layers. For each angle of incidence in an incident angle range of 0-50 degrees, an optical transmittance of each of the optical film and the plurality of second layers versus wavelength includes a band edge disposed in a transition wavelength range separating a visible wavelength range where the optical film and the plurality of second layers have respective average optical transmittances Tv and Tv2 from an infrared wavelength range where the optical film and the plurality of second layers have respective average optical transmittances Ti and Ti2. Each of Tv and Tv2 is greater than about 30%. An average value of Tv2 is greater than an average value of Tv by at least 5%. An average value of Ti is less than an average value of Ti2 by at least 20%.
Abstract:
The present disclosure provides an article including a layer having a nanostructured first surface including nanofeatures and an opposing second surface, and an organic layer including a major surface attached to a portion of the nanofeatures. The nanostructured first surface includes protruding features that are formed of a single composition and/or recessed features. The nanofeatures and the major surface of the second layer together define at least one void. The present disclosure also provides a method of making the article including contacting nanofeatures of a layer having a nanostructured surface with a major surface of an organic layer and reacting at least one material to secure the two layers together. In addition, the present disclosure provides an optical information display and an OLED device including the article. The nanostructured surface of the article is protected from damage and contamination by the organic layer.

Abstract:
A multifunctional polymerizable ionic liquid is described comprising an anion and a cationic group having at least two ethylenically unsaturated polymerizable groups, each bonded to the cationic group via a divalent non-alkyl linking group. The multifunctional linking groups independently comprise a heteroatom such as oxygen or nitrogen. The linking groups may independently comprise one or more linkages such as an amide, urea, and more typically a urethane or ester linkage. The ethylenically unsaturated polymerizable groups are typically (meth)acrylate groups. Coatings and coated articles are also described.
