摘要: A method for the preparation of a supported transition metal catalyst system which includes the steps of: (i) mixing together in a suitable solvent (a) an aluminoxane and (b) an ionic activator containing a cation and an anion, wherein the anion has at least one substituent containing a moiety having an active hydrogen, (ii) addition of the mixture from step (i) to a support material, and (iii) addition of a transition metal compound in a suitable solvent. The use of tetraisobutylaluminoxane as the aluminoxane results in a more stable activity profile and improved polymer properties in particular melt strength.

摘要: An EMI resistant, low impedance touch sensor detects contact of a dielectric substrate by an operator's appendage or body part, a metal object, or the proximity of a moving fluid/gas interface. The touch sensor includes a first conductive electrode pad and a second conductive electrode of substantially equal area which is spaced from the first electrode by a channel of non-conductive dielectric. The first and second electrodes are optionally disposed on the same surface of the substrate. An active electrical component including an oscillator and a differential sensing circuit is located on the substrate proximate the first and second electrodes and is electrically coupled to the first and second electrodes. Noise or interference signals appearing on both the first and second electrodes, being of substantially equal area, are subtracted from one another through to provide common mode rejection of EMI.

摘要: A method of assembling components together in sealed relationship and an assembly of two components for forming a fluid-tight seal together are provided. The method includes applying to at least one mating surface a layer of polysulphide sealant and allowing it to cure before bringing together the mating surfaces under a moderate pre-determined pressure for a pre-determined length of time whereby to bring about a sealed joint between the two mating surfaces.

摘要: A swimming pool cover which retards algae growth. Two films are sealed together so as to create air pockets which allow the pool cover to float on the surface of the water. One or both of the films contains a material which prevents the passage of light in those wavelengths which are necessary for algae growth, especially 350-500 nm and 600-700 nm. The material may either be a dye which has a color associated with that wavelength or may be a transparent material which removes those wavelengths of light. The remaining wavelengths of light are allowed to pass through the cover in order to heat the water but not cause algae growth. Additionally, the cover can be made by mixing light absorbing material into the plastic before making the film for the pool cover or may be made by applying a layer of light absorbing material to the film.

摘要: A solution suitable as a hypothermic blood substitute for replacing blood in euthermic subjects during surgery are provided. The blood substitute contains a purge solution and a maintenance solution, the latter of which is useful for organ preservation. The purge solution contains an aqueous solution of electrolytes at physiological concentrations, a macromolecular oncotic agent, a biological pH buffer effective under physiological and hypothermic conditions, a simple sugar, and a substrate for the regeneration of ATP. The maintenance solution contains a second aqueous solution of electrolytes containing potassium ions at a concentration range of from 35 to 45 mM, sodium ions at a concentration range of from 80 to 120 mM, magnesium ions at a concentration range of from 2 to 10 mM, chloride ions at a concentration range of from 15 to 20 mM, and calcium ions at a concentration range of from 0.01 to 0.1 mM, an impermeant anion, mannitol, a macromolecular oncotic agent, at least one simple sugar, a substrate for the regeneration of ATP, and a biological pH buffer effective under physiological hypothermic conditions. Glutathione is an optional but preferred additive. The blood substitute solutions are also useful for preserving organs for later transplantation in subjects. Skin may be preserved in the maintenance solutions for extended periods under refrigeration.
