Abstract: Disclosed herein are various systems and methods for facilitating control of a tool or tools. The systems can allow a user to control multiple degrees of freedom. One such system allows a user to control multiple degrees of freedom of two tools simultaneously. Another such system allows a user to control multiple degrees of freedom with a single hand. Frames and rails for supporting and/or constraining movement of a tool or tools are also described herein.

Abstract: A medical system including an instrument. The instrument may have a rigid guide tube with a pre-formed shape and at least one change in direction between a proximal end and a distal end of the guide tube. The guide tube may include a first channel extending between the proximal end and the distal end and a second channel extending alongside the first channel. The first channel may include a first opening extending along a side of the guide tube so that the first channel is at least partially exposed. The guide tube may further include an optical device integrally formed with the body. A cross-section of a proximal portion of the guide tube may be greater than a cross-section of a distal portion of the guide tube.

One exemplary system includes a guide tube having a manipulation section and mated with rails carrying instrument control members. Abstract: According to one aspect, a tissue fastening device may include a handle assembly including at least two actuators. The tissue fastening device may also include a first body extending distally from the handle assembly and defining a longitudinal axis. The tissue fastening device may also include a fastening device coupled to a distal end of the first body. The fastening device may include a longitudinal body including a channel, a cartridge configured to include a plurality of fasteners, a longitudinal channel configured to receive a device for cutting tissue, an anvil rotatable relative to the cartridge, and a fastener actuator. The fastener actuator may be coupled to one actuator of the at least two actuators and configured to move proximally relative to the cartridge to deploy the plurality of fasteners from the cartridge.

Abstract: Described herein are drive systems and methods. One exemplary system includes a tool having a proximal handle and a catheter body. The tool can be mated with a rail and the rail mated with a frame. The connection between the tool and rail and/or the rail and frame can allow relative movement of the tool with respect to the frame, a patient, and/or a point of reference. In one exemplary configuration the handle of the tool rotates around an axis that corresponds to a portion of the catheter body, such that rotational movement of the handle has a minimal impact on longitudinal movement and/or position of a distal end of the tool.
