Abstract:
A device includes a printed circuit board (PCB). The device may also include a high voltage coil disposed on the PCB and a low voltage coil disposed on the PCB. Further, a conductive shield forms a three-dimensional enclosure around the high voltage coil and confines an electric field generated by the device to the PCB.

Abstract:
A transformer having an insulation system is presented. The transformer includes a magnetic core having an opening. Also, the transformer includes a plurality of primary windings disposed extending through the opening of the magnetic core. Further, the insulation system includes a first insulation substantially encapsulating the plurality of primary windings and impregnating spaces between the plurality of primary windings, and a second insulation disposed around the first insulation, where the second insulation has at least one of a predetermined dielectric strength and a predetermined thickness configured to isolate a first voltage signal in the plurality of primary windings from the magnetic core.
Abstract:
A transformer includes a ceramic housing, a primary winding disposed within the housing, a secondary winding disposed outside the winding, and a core extending through a first aperture in the housing. The housing includes a first portion and a second portion. Each of the first and second portions include a planar structure having a first housing aperture, and a plurality of sidewalls extending perpendicular to the planar structure along a plurality of edges of the planar structure. The first and second portions interface with one another when the ceramic housing is assembled such that the sidewalls of the first and second portions overlap with one another.
Abstract:
An electrical machine includes a stator assembly having an annular core and a conductive winding. The annular core includes a central bore. The conductive winding includes one or more stator winding bars disposed circumferentially around the central bore. The one or more stator winding bars include a core conductor and an insulation layer surrounding the core conductor. An end segment of the one or more stator winding bars at a connection interface includes a stress control structure surrounding the insulation layer. The stress control structure includes a printed scaffold and a dielectric backfill material. The dielectric backfill material fills pores of the printed scaffold. The porous scaffold is composed of a stress control material that is different from the dielectric backfill material.
Abstract:
Insulation systems that present an electrical stress grading through the disposition of resistively graded networks between insulating layers is described. The resistively graded networks may be implemented by coating insulating material with resistive material, and wrapping the insulation material around a conductor. The resistive material may be linear or non-linear material. Fabrication of the insulating material, the resistive material, and the coating process are also discussed, as well as the application of the insulation to the conductor are also discussed.
Abstract:
A dielectric fluid includes a first liquid having first dielectric constant and conductivity values. The dielectric fluid also includes a second liquid having second dielectric constant and conductivity values. The first dielectric constant value is greater than the second dielectric constant value and the second electrical conductivity value is less than the first electrical conductivity value. The first and second liquids form an immiscible mixture that has third dielectric constant and conductivity values between the first and second dielectric constant values and the first and second electrical conductivity values, respectively. The first liquid forms a high conductivity phase representative of the first conductivity value, and the second liquid forms a low conductivity phase representative of the second conductivity value. The low conductivity phase is continuous the high conductivity phase is a plurality of droplets non-homogeneously dispersed within, and separated by, the continuous low conductivity phase.
Abstract:
An electrical machine of a vehicle electrical propulsion system includes a stator, a rotor, and a stator winding all disposed within a housing thereof. The stator defines a central bore elongated along a longitudinal axis, and multiple slots circumferentially disposed around the central bore. The rotor is held within the central bore and rotates relative to the stator. The stator winding includes a core conductor, an insulation layer surrounding the core conductor, and a conductive shield layer surrounding the insulation layer. The stator winding extends through the slots of the stator. The stator winding includes an in-slot portion within the slots of the stator and an end-winding portion outside of the slots. The conductive shield layer surrounds the insulation layer along both the in-slot portion and the end-winding portion of the stator winding.
