Abstract:
Methods and apparatus relating to dynamic selection of execution stage are described. In some embodiments, logic may determine whether to execute an instruction at one of a plurality of stages in a processor. In some embodiments, the plurality of stages are to at least correspond to an address generation stage or an execution stage of the instruction. Other embodiments are also described and claimed.

Abstract:
An IRD is provided with expanded self-test capabilities, both hardware and software, that will provide standardized and more precise diagnostics. The IRD runs a sequence of tests to determine the fitness of the IRD and the health of the ODU. As the tests are completed, the results are displayed on-screen and written to a report. If a test fails, the appropriate remedial action such as “reset to factory default settings”, “service call” or “replace IRD, access card, modem, ODU” is also written to the report. The IRD appends the test report to a header message and forwards it to the service provider. The satellite service provider archives the report, modifies the header message to provide customer contact information and the responsible dealer, and forwards the file to the service dealer. To improve service and accountability, the dealer may send an acknowledgement back to the service provider and customer.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for encoding and decoding data is described. The present invention includes a method and apparatus for generating transformed signals in response to input data. In one embodiment, the transformed signals are generated using a reversible wavelet transform. The present invention also includes a method and apparatus for compressing the transformed signals into data representing a losslessly compressed version of the input data. In one embodiment, the present invention decomposes the input data using a non-minimal length reversible filter. The decomposition may be performed using multiple one-dimension filters.
Abstract:
A network configuration file is generated at a host computer and downloaded to a digital camera. This file contains instruction information for communicating with a selected destination via a communications interface. The digital camera includes a “send” button or LCD icon which allows the user to easily transmit one or more images via a wired or wireless communications interface to a desired destination, which among other possibilities may be an Internet Service Provider or a digital photofinishing center. When the user selects this option, the communications port settings, user account specifics, and destination connection commands are read from the network configuration file on the removable memory card. Examples of these settings include serial port baud rate, parity, and stop bits, as well as account name and password.
Abstract:
An endoscopic bipolar forceps includes a housing having a shaft affixed thereto, the shaft including jaw members at a distal end thereof. The shaft includes a longitudinal axis defined therethrough and the jaw members are adapted to connect to a source of electrosurgical energy such that the jaw members are capable of conducting energy through tissue held therebetween to effect a tissue seal. The forceps also includes a drive assembly which moves the jaw member relative to one another from a first position wherein the jaw members are disposed in spaced relation relative to one another to a second position wherein the jaw members are closer to one another for manipulating tissue. A movable handle is included which is rotatable about a pivot to force the drive assembly to move the jaw members between the first and second positions. The pivot is located a fixed distance above the longitudinal axis. A knife assembly is also included which has a movable knife bar having a generally t-shaped proximal end dimensioned to operatively engage a corresponding slot defined within the housing, the slot being dimensioned to guide the movement of the knife bar during translation thereof.
Abstract:
A communication signal adapter is connected between a portable satellite signal receiver/decoder and a wireless local area network (LAN) transceiver to enable wireless communication between the portable satellite signal receiver/decoder and a wireless LAN. The adapter includes a modem interface adapter and a communications processor that converts information, such as callback data and viewer statistical data, developed by the satellite signal receiver/decoder in a proprietary format, to a data format that is suitable for transmission via the wireless LAN transceiver and then provides the converted data to the wireless LAN transceiver for communication to the LAN. The adapter also includes a microprocessor that controls text insertion control circuitry which is used to convert data signals, such as text messages, delivered from the wireless LAN into signals that are suitable for display on a television and which also inserts the converted text messages into a video signal developed by the portable satellite signal receiver/decoder for display on a standard television.
Abstract:
A wireless communication system operating in the presence of the periodic noise such as from a microwave oven, the communication system, wherein the wireless communication system including at least two wireless communication stations with transceiver in microwave communication with each other, each such station detects periodic microwave signals for producing a signal indicating the duration of a periodic microwave signal's quiescent period; and controls the transmitter to send a data packet which includes data and the duration of quiescent periods in the periodic microwave signal; and adjusts the amount of data sent in an data packet as a function of the duration of the quiescent period.
Abstract:
Adaptive coding method and apparatus in which the speed at which the coder transitions between different codes to perform bit generation is adapted, or adjusted, while coding the data to arrive at a point where the initial bits of the outputs include zeros and ones occurring equally often.
