摘要: A method of encoding a digital video data applies adaptive pre-processing to data representing high dynamic range (HDR) and/or wide color gamut (WCG) image data prior to encoding and complementary post-processing to the data after decoding in order to allow at least partial reproduction of the HDR and/or WCG data. The example methods apply one or more color space conversions, and a perceptual transfer functions to the data prior to quantization. The example methods apply inverse perceptual transfer functions and inverse color space conversions after decoding to recover the HDR and/or WCG data. The transfer functions are adaptive so that different transfer functions may be applied to video data sets including different groups of frames, frames or processing windows in a single frame. Information on the data set and information on the applied transfer function is passed as metadata from the encoder to the decoder.

摘要: For each image in a set of images, a representation of the image at a first level of quality is derived using a first representation of the image at a second, higher level of quality and is output for processing by a decoder. Configuration data is output for processing by the decoder to enable the decoder to detect whether or not the first representation of a given image in the set of images is to be reconstructed using residual data for the given image, the residual data: (i) being useable to reconstruct the first representation using a second representation of the image at the second level of quality, the second representation being based on the representation of the image at the first level of quality, and (ii) being derived based on the first representation and the second representation.

The encoding may also generate encoding metadata, which may comprise a qualitative or quantitative characterization of the encoded media content item. A prediction engine may, based on this metadata, determine new encoding settings for the same or a different video resolution. The prediction engine may cause an encoded media content item to be stored and may cause encoding of the media content item using the new encoding settings.

摘要: Measures are provided to encode a signal. An input frame (102) is received and down-sampled to obtain a down-sampled frame (103). The down-sampled frame (103) is passed to an encoding module (104) which encodes the down-sampled frame (103) to generate an encoded frame (105). A decoded frame is obtained from a decoding module (106) which generates the decoded frame by decoding the encoded frame (105). A set of residual data (113) is generated by taking a difference between the decoded frame and the down-sampled frame (103) and is encoded to generate a set of encoded residual data. The encoding comprises transforming the set of residual data into a transformed set of residual data. The set of encoded residual data is output to a decoder to enable the decoder to reconstruct the input frame. Measures are also provided to decode a signal.

摘要: A video encoder may be configured to apply a multi-stage quantization process, where residuals are first quantized using an effective quantization parameter derived from the statistics of the samples of the block. The residual is then further quantized using a base quantization parameter that is uniform across a picture. A video decoder may be configured to decode the video data using the base quantization parameter. The video decoder may further be configured to estimate the effective quantization parameter from the statistics of the decoded samples of the block. The video decoder may then use the estimated effective quantization parameter for use in determining parameters for other coding tools, including filters.

摘要: There is provided a method of encoding a video signal, the method comprising: receiving an input frame; processing the input frame to generate at least one set of residuals data, the residuals data enabling a decoder to reconstruct the input frame from a reference reconstructed frame; and, applying a run-length coding operation to the set of residuals data, wherein the run-length coding operation comprises generating a run-length encoded bytestream comprising a set of symbols representing non-zero data values of the residuals data set and counts of consecutive zero values of the residuals data set. In certain embodiments the method comprises apply a Huffman coding operation to the set of symbols. A method of decoding is also provided as well as apparatuses and a computer readable medium.

摘要: Groups of video frames can be compressed using reversed ordering. For a group of a video sequence having a display order, a determination is made as to whether to arrange the group in a reversed display order before a prediction process of an encoder for the group. Responsive thereto, the group is arranged in the reversed display order as an input order to the prediction process. Otherwise, the group is provided to the prediction process in the display order as the input order. In performing the prediction process, the group, received in the input order, is arranged in a coding order using a group coding structure that defines at least one backward reference frame for inclusion within a set of candidate reference frames. Multiple backward reference frames may also be defined. The group is predicted in the coding order using the set of candidate reference frames.

摘要: There are provided mechanisms for encoding a picture of a video sequence in a video bitstream. The picture comprises pixels wherein each pixel has a color value comprising at least one color component value. The method comprises determining a frequency distribution of the color component values of the at least one color component. The method comprises determining at least one quantization parameter for coding of transform coefficients for the at least one color component based on the determined frequency distribution of the color component values. The method comprises encoding the determined at least one quantization parameter.
