Abstract: Various embodiments relate to a thermal management system for an electronic device, such as an augmented reality or virtual reality device. The thermal management system can comprise an active cooling mechanism in various embodiments to dynamically or actively cool components of the device, for example, by adjust fan speeds of a fan assembly. In some embodiments, a hardware shutdown mechanism can be provided to shut down the device if software-based thermal management devices are inoperable. In some embodiments, the air flow into and/or within the electronic device can be adjusted to cool various components of the device.

Abstract: A fan assembly is disclosed. The fan assembly can include a first support frame. The fan assembly can comprise a shaft assembly having a first end coupled with the first support frame and a second end disposed away from the first end. A second support frame can be coupled with the first support frame and disposed at or over the second end of the shaft assembly. An impeller can have fan blades coupled with a hub, the hub being disposed over the shaft assembly for rotation between the first and second support frames about a longitudinal axis. Transverse loading on the shaft assembly can be controlled by the first and second support frames.

Abstract: Systems and methods of disabling user control interfaces during attachment of a wearable electronic device to a portion of a user's clothing or accessory are disclosed. The wearable electronic device can include inertial measurement units (IMUs), optical sources, optical sensors or electromagnetic sensors. Based on the information provided by the IMUs, optical sources, optical sensors or electromagnetic sensors, an electrical processing and control system can make a determination that the electronic device is being grasped and picked up for attaching to a portion of a user's clothing or accessory or that the electronic device is in the process of being attached to a portion of a user's clothing or accessory and temporarily disable one or more user control interfaces disposed on the outside of the wearable electronic device.

Abstract: A wearable electronic device is disclosed. The device can include a support structure and an electronic component disposed in or on the support structure. A heat exchanger element can be thermally coupled with the electronic component, the heat exchanger element comprising a fluid inlet port and a fluid outlet port. A first conduit can be fluidly connected to the fluid inlet port of the heat exchanger, the first conduit configured to convey, to the heat exchanger, liquid at a first temperature. A second conduit can be fluidly connected to the fluid outlet port of the heat exchanger, the second conduit configured to convey, away from the heat exchanger, liquid at a second temperature different from the first temperature.
