Abstract:
A map display device for a vehicle navigation system providing route guidance including an information memory device for storing map data relating to route search and route guidance, as well as other guidance data, an input device for inputting instructions and information for route search and route guidances, a display device for displaying a map and other guidance data by switching between a single screen display mode and a two-part split screen display modes, and a display control device for reading guidance data from the information memory device in response to the instructions input to the input device and a control guidance screen displayed on the display device. The map display device displays a frame, to the position corresponding to the detailed map, on the wide area map, regarding the wide area map and its detailed map in the two-part split screen display mode. Therefore, this system can distinctly display the relationship between the detailed map and the wide area map displayed in two-part split screen display mode.
Abstract:
A navigation apparatus reduces route search time while providing guidance in conformity with drivers' preferences, by selectively conducting either a full-range route search or a more limited, local area search, in accordance with detected conditions and responsive to occurrence of an off-route event. For example, the full-range route search is conducted pursuant to a determination that the vehicle has gone straight at a predetermined number of certain intersections where current guidance has directed a turn.
Abstract:
Lane change guidance information is output based on data for the next guide intersection on a route calculated in advance and on detection of the driving lane in which the vehicle is currently driven. The system includes present position detection, direction of advance determination for guide intersections along the preset route, driving lane determination, and guidance information output for instructing the driver when direction to be taken at a guide intersection does not match the current driving lane, whereby adequate guidance information is provided the driver regarding lane changes when the vehicle is driven on a road having two or more lanes.
Abstract:
A voice route-guidance system for vehicles which terminates its route-guidance when the vehicle arrives at the destination and even if the present position of the vehicle is measured with low accuracy. An approach judging unit judges that the vehicle approaches a point spaced apart from a destination by a predetermined distance. A guidance termination judging unit further judges whether or not there is a point in which the route-guidance should be carried out between the present vehicle position and the destination. From these judgments, the system judges that the vehicle approaches the point spaced apart from the destination by the predetermined distance and also that all the route-guidance has been terminated. Thus, a termination unit terminates the route-guidance.
Abstract:
An apparatus to facilitate volume control for route aural guidance. When supplying a guidance voice to a loudspeaker 34a, a voice control section 30 disconnects the loudspeaker 34a from audio and outputs the guidance voice through the loudspeaker. A volume control screen is displayed on a display section 28 where the user adjusts the volume by touching the screen. When the voice control section 30 switches a signal to the loudspeaker 34a, a mute circuit 40a is operated to mute the voice output before the voice is output through the loudspeaker 34a. When the user terminates volume adjustment, the voice control section 30 outputs a voice for volume confirmation or check at the adjusted volume through the loudspeaker 34a. The user can check the adjusted volume at this time.
Abstract:
A vehicle navigation system includes a simulated run mode along with a normal navigation mode. In the simulated run mode, a simulated present position is calculated to move in accordance with simulated motion so that route guidance information is presented to the viewer in the same manner as during actual navigation. The simulated motion may be increased or decreased, may be stepped or continuous, and/or may be controlled in accordance with stored speed information on the roads of the route.
Abstract:
A navigation system for guiding a vehicle to a destination in accordance with a predetermined route composed of roads and branching points. A data base stores the names of the roads, the names of the branching points, and information relating entry roads to exit roads. A first picture display is a route information screen listing at least the road names and the branching point names, which screen may be called up by a screen operating signal issued from an input switch. A controller reads the route information from the data base in response to the screen operating signal from the input switch and forms the listing displayed on the route information screen.
Abstract:
A position input system for a vehicular navigation apparatus includes an input unit for inputting a desired destination and a present position, a memory unit for storing desired destination information and map information, and a display unit for outputting the desired destination information and map information in response to input information from the input unit. The map information is indicative of intersections and a geographical point located between intersections and possessing useful guidance information. A desired destination and present position are capable of being inputted by setting the useful guidance information between a road leading to and a road leading from the geographical point. This makes it possible to enter position simply and accurately. Positions are precise since they are selected from pre-stored information relating to geographical locations. Vehicle direction can also be inputted in accurate fashion where parking lot exits and intersections are concerned.
Abstract:
A map updating system includes: an update processing unit for performing update processing by reading data required in the update processing from a cache area of a memory when the data are stored in the cache area and from a map database when the data are not stored in the cache area; a cache storage unit for storing the data read by the update processing unit in the cache area; a processing memory capacity determination unit for determining a processing memory capacity, which is a capacity of the memory required as an update processing area, on the basis of the content of map data to be subjected to the update processing; and a cache capacity determination unit for determining a cache capacity, which is a capacity of the memory allocated to the cache area, on the basis of the processing memory capacity.
Abstract:
A map display device is presented including an information memory device for storing map data, a display device for displaying a map based on map data stored in the information memory device, and a display control device, which has a coordinate transformation device for transforming coordinates on a curved plane into coordinates on a projected plane, for controlling the readout of map data from the information memory device and the map display on the display device. The display control device relates coordinates on the map to coordinates on the curved plane with respect to a coordinate transformation reference point, transforms coordinates on the curved plane into coordinates on the projected plane using the coordinate transformation device, and displays a map on the display device by using the coordinates transformed on the projected plane. Therefore, the device enables a driver to obtain the same sense of distance unaffected by the direction by using the present position. A map of the vicinity of the present position is displayed over a wide area.
