The present invention has as its object the provision of a surface-treated sheet for an alkaline secondary battery, which has gas evolution suppressing effect and also has resistance to an alkaline electrolyte solution. A surface-treated sheet 100 of the present invention for an alkaline secondary battery has a base material 10, and a metal layer 20 formed on at least one side of the base material 10. The metal layer 20 includes an alloy layer 20M that contains Ni and Zn, the alloy layer includes a first region 20A in which a proportion of Ni is 60% to 85% based on a total content of Ni and Zn, and the first region 20A has a thickness of 0.15 μm or greater.

A surface-treated metal plate including: a metal plate; and a nickel-cobalt binary alloy layer formed on the metal plate. When a part having a content ratio of oxygen atoms of 5 atomic % or more as measured by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopic analysis is an oxide coating film, the nickel-cobalt binary alloy layer contains the oxide coating film with a thickness of 0.5 to 30 nm on a surface thereof, and when a pressure cooker test including temperature increasing, retention for 72 hours under a water-vapor atmosphere at a temperature of 105° C. and a relative humidity of 100% RH, and temperature decreasing is performed, the amount of increase in the thickness of the oxide coating film is 28 nm or less.

A surface-treated steel sheet for battery containers is provided. The surface-treated sheet is used to form a battery container for a battery. The battery uses a nonaqueous electrolytic solution as an electrolytic solution. The surface-treated steel sheet includes a base material made of steel and an iron-nickel diffusion layer formed by performing thermal diffusion treatment after forming a nickel plating layer at least on a surface of the base material to be located at the inner surface side of the battery container. The iron-nickel diffusion layer has an outermost layer of which a ratio of Ni and Fe is 7.5 or less as a molar ratio of Ni/Fe. The iron-nickel diffusion layer has a thickness of 0.6 μm or more.

Provided is a method for producing a surface-treated steel sheet for battery containers including: a first process of forming an iron-nickel alloy plating layer on at least one side of a steel sheet; a second process of forming a nickel plating layer on the iron-nickel alloy plating layer; and a third process of performing a thermal treatment after forming the nickel plating layer to form an iron-nickel alloy layer having an outermost surface, at which a content ratio of Fe atoms is 12 to 55% by atom, on an outermost layer by thermal diffusion. The invention makes it possible to provide the method for producing the surface-treated steel sheet for battery containers that can suppress the elution of iron inside the battery when being used for a battery container, whereby the service life of the battery can be extended and battery characteristics such as discharge characteristics can be improved.

When the Fe intensity and the Ni intensity are continuously measured from the surface of the surface-treated steel sheet for a battery container along the depth direction with a high frequency glow discharge optical emission spectrometric analyzer, the thickness of the iron-nickel diffusion layer being the difference (D2−D1) between the depth (D1) at which the Fe intensity exhibits a first predetermined value and the depth (D2) at which the Ni intensity exhibits a second predetermined value is 0.04 to 0.31 μm; and the total amount of the nickel contained in the iron-nickel diffusion layer and the nickel contained in the nickel layer is 10.8 to 26.7 g/m2.

A nickel-plated heat-treated steel sheet for a battery can, having a nickel layer with a nickel amount of 4.4 to 26.7 g/m2 on a steel sheet. When the Fe intensity and the Ni intensity are continuously measured along the depth direction from the surface of the nickel-plated heat-treated steel sheet for a battery can, by using a high frequency glow discharge optical emission spectrometric analyzer, the difference between the depth at which the Fe intensity exhibits a first predetermined value and the depth at which the Ni intensity exhibits a second predetermined value is less than 0.04 μm.

Provided is a surface-treated steel sheet for battery containers (100) that is obtained in such a manner that after iron-nickel alloy plating is performed on a steel sheet (10), a thermal treatment is performed and is characterized in that an outermost layer is an iron-nickel alloy layer (20), and the iron-nickel alloy layer (20) has an average crystal size of 1 to 8 μm at the outermost surface thereof.
