Abstract: The present invention provides a process for producing a ballistic-resistant curved molded article said process comprising pressing in a mold a stack comprising a plurality of layers of unidirectionally aligned polyolefin fibers substantially absent a bonding matrix and a plurality of layers of adhesive; characterized in that a means for dispersing pressure is employed against at least one surface of the stack. Also provided are a ballistic-resistant curved molded article and a press-pad having substantially the shape of a curved mold.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a polyolefin fiber comprising polymeric structures, wherein the polymeric structures individually comprise a polycondensate and a functionalized polymer, and the polyolefin fiber is a gel-spun high-performance polyethylene fiber that has a tenacity of at least 1 N/tex. The polymeric structures are immiscible with and dispersed in the polyethylene fiber. The gel-spun high-performance polyethylene fiber is a gel-spun ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene fiber. The present invention further relates to a process for making the polyolefin fiber comprising the steps of: melt-mixing the polycondensate or a polycondensate containing at least one additive, the functionalized polymer, and optionally the thermoplastic polymer and/or the at least one additive, to form polymeric structures; mixing polyolefin powder, the polymeric structures and a solvent to form a mixture; and spinning and drawing the mixture obtained in step ii) to form the polyolefin fiber comprising the polymeric structures.

Abstract: In various embodiments, an improved flexible-composite material is described that comprises at least one scrim constructed from at least two unidirectional tape layers bonded together and at least one woven fabric, non-woven fabric, or membrane bonded to the scrim. In various embodiments, the unidirectional tape layers comprise a plurality of parallel fiber bundles comprising monofilaments within an adhesive resin. In various embodiments, the fiber bundles are separated by gaps that can be filled in by adhesive or non-adhesive resin.
