摘要: An electrochemical system includes a first electrode for sensing a fluid sample to be analyzed and a reference electrode. The reference electrode is disposed in electrolyte and a membrane separates the electrolyte from the fluid sample. The membrane has a multiplicity of parallel passages, the width of each passage being less than one-half micron, such that the passages provide a multiplicity of similar ionic junctions between the electrolyte and the fluid sample.

摘要: Fluid analysis apparatus includes a sample chamber that has a constituent sensor in it and an inlet conduit connected to the sample chamber. A heater assembly surrounds the inlet conduit. The heater assembly includes a preheater stage, a final heater stage, and a heat supply stage disposed between the preheater and final stages. Tempering fluid is flowed sequentially through the preheater stage, the heat supply stage and final stage and around the sample chamber for maintaining the sample chamber and the constituent sensor at a stable temperature and heating the sample to that same temperature as it flows through the inlet conduit.

摘要: A replaceable cartridge assembly for use with electrochemical analysis apparatus includes a housing of electrically insulating material that defines an annular electrolyte chamber with coupling structure at one end of the housing and a chamber port at the other end of the housing. A selectively permeable membrane extends across the port in sealing relation thereto. An elongated guide channel within the housing is surrounded by the electrolyte chamber and receives a cooperating connector stem that carries a socket-temperature sensor assembly. A cathode electrode projects coaxially upwardly from the end wall of the guide channel into the stem socket and the lower portion of the cathode electrode extends through the guide channel end wall such that its tip is exposed to the membrane. An anode electrode is disposed in the electrolyte chamber with an external contact surface adjacent the coupling structure. Electrolyte in the annular chamber extends through the chamber port into the region between the membrane and the tip of the cathode electrode to provide an electrically conductive path between the anode and cathode electrodes.

摘要: A storage and manipulating tool for replacement plunger heads includes a set of storage cavities in which replacement plunger heads (syringe tips) are stored. Each plunger head has an annular flange, and a socket for receiving the end of a cooperating plunger shaft and is stored in its cavity with its socket facing the open end of the storage cavity. The tool also includes elongated passage defining structure for receiving a related plunger shaft. The cross-sectional dimension of the elongated passage is uniform along its length and is less than the annular flange portion of a replacement plunger head stored in a cavity such that axial movement of a plunger shaft in the elongated passage is effective to remove the attached plunger head. The exposed attachment end of the plunger shaft is then inserted into a storage cavity to attach a replacement plunger head for removal from the storage cavity without handling the sealing surfaces of the plunger head.

摘要: An improved analytical cuvette assembly includes structure defining a first chamber region that has a loading port through which a first reaction component is introduced for storage, structure defining a second chamber region having a loading port through which a second reaction component is introduced for storage, and barrier structure between the first and second chamber regions that has a crest portion that defines the lower edge of a transfer passage between the two chamber regions. The second chamber region includes an analysis region where the reaction product resulting from mixture of the two reaction components is subjected to analysis. Each chamber region is defined by opposed planar side wall surfaces and a planar base wall surface, and capillary flow inhibiting structure extends from the crest of the barrier structure along the intersection between a planar surface portion of the barrier structure and the side wall surface and along at least a portion of the intersection of the side wall surfaces and the base surface.

摘要: Method and apparatus for automatically depositing predetermined reproducible amounts of nebulized samples into a furnace atomizer of an atomic absorption spectrophotometer, the atomizer being provided with an aperture, wherein a plurality of sample containers containing samples to be analyzed are arranged and successively transported on a sample supporting device, with the sample containers being open at their upper ends. The samples are aspirated from the containers via a suitable means and into a nebulizer-mixing chamber device wherein they are nebulized and mixed until such time that the nebulized sample achieves full equilibrium therein. A means is provided for depositing the nebulized and now equilibrated sample from the chamber device through the aperture into the furnace atomizer. The deposition of predetermined and reproducible amounts of nebulized samples is controlled by a means which, in a preferred embodiment, comprises a vacuum source in valved communication with the means for depositing the nebulized sample in a way that aerosol deposition is effected only during the time period when the vacuum source is shut off from the means for depositing the aerosol sample by shutting off the valve. In another preferred embodiment, the means for controlling the amount of aerosol sample being deposited comprises a fluidic switch in communication with the nebulizer-mixing chamber device on the one hand and with the means for depositing the sample on the other. Hence, sample deposition takes place only during the time period when such communication from the chamber device to the deposition means is effected by the fluidic switch.

摘要: A device for dispensing liquid from an ampul or the like has a body that defines a cavity with an open entrance end for receiving an ampul. An annular seal in the cavity is in sealing engagement with an ampul as the ampul is telescopically inserted into the cavity, and an inlet tube secured in the cavity has an inlet end adjacent the open end of the cavity and an outlet end in fluid communication with a dispensing passage, so that when an ampul is in sealing engagement with the annular seal and the inlet end of the tube is submerged in liquid in the ampul, further axial movement of the ampul into the cavity creates a piston action which compresses air trapped in the cavity and forces liquid from the ampul through the inlet tube and the dispensing passage in a dispensing action.

摘要: A liquid sample analyzer has an analysis chamber adapted to receive sample material to be analyzed, sensor means coupled to the analysis chamber for providing an output signal related to a constituent of the sample material, and sampler apparatus that includes structure defining a sample intake flow path that has an inlet port and is connected to the analysis chamber, and rinse apparatus in communication with a waste system. A wiper member slides along the intake tube for wiping sample residue from the outer surface of the intake tube. A drive moves the sample inlet port between a sample intake position in which the inlet port is exposed to the operator and a reset position in which the inlet port is aligned with and the wiper is seated on the rinse apparatus. When the sample inlet port is in the sample intake position sample material is flowed into the sample intake flow path and when the sample inlet port is in reset position cleaning fluid is flowed through the sample flow path and against a surface of the wiper member for removing sample residue from the wiper member.
