Abstract:
Methods and systems for reducing an average particle size of blackwater solids is disclosed. A vessel is configured to receive a blackwater stream through a one-way inlet. The one-way inlet is configured to allow the blackwater stream into the vessel and prevent backflow. The blackwater stream contains blackwater solids and water. A device in a bottom portion of the vessel is configured to receive the blackwater and comminute the blackwater solids. A recirculating pump is configured to recirculate the blackwater stream under pressure through the device until the average particle size of the blackwater solids is reduced below a size threshold, resulting in a sized blackwater stream.
Abstract:
Solid waste, for example source separated organics (SSO) or commercial and industrial (C&I) waste or both, are treated by first pressurizing the waste against a screen to produce a solids fraction and a liquid fraction. The liquid fraction can be treated in an anaerobic digester. The solids fraction is pulverized or milled, for example with a hammer mill, preferably after being diluted. The pulverized or milled waste is separated again to provide a second solids faction and a second liquid fraction. The liquid fraction can be treated in an anaerobic digester. The solids fraction is primarily inert and can be landfilled, preferably after being washed.
Abstract:
The invention concerns a vortex machine modified to intensify the vortex in the machine by installing inlet fans in addition to the main fan and modifying the configuration of the machine. Additional intensification of the vortex is achieved by introducing microwaves into the vortex machine. The vortex machine has a vortex tube, an inlet tube to the vortex tube at the inlet end, a feed inlet to the vortex tube between the inlet end and an outlet end and a fan rotor at the outlet en to draw air in a vortex through the vortex tube. An inlet fan in the inlet tube adapted to force air into the vortex tube. These modifications and additions achieve commercially viable capacities of the vortex machine in drying, grinding and process applications.
Abstract:
A heated ultrasonic treating device (6) comprising a sump (13) through which suspended matter-containing liquid passes, a temperature-controllable heater (14) disposes in the sump (13), and a ultrasonic vibrator (15) disposed in the sump (13). The heated ultrasonic treating device (6) uses the ultrasonic vibrator (15) to apply ultrasonic waves while heating organic drain passing the sump (13) with the heater (14), thereby pulverizing suspended matters and reducing the amount of SS. In addition, a treating column, where pulverized suspended matter-containing liquid is aerobically treated by aerobic microorganisms, is prevented from efficiency lowering due to clogging.
Abstract:
A process for the comminution and dehydration of animal waste and/or parts by feeding the animal waste and/or parts into a cyclonic, dehydrating comminuter facilitates the further processing of the comminuted and dehydrated animal waste discharged from the comminuter. Both the comminuted and dehydrated material and the air flow discharged from the cyclonic comminuter are sterilized to remove pathogens therefrom. The rate at which the animal waste and/or parts material is fed into the cyclonic comminuter. is directly related to the moisture content of the comminuted and dehydrated material discharged from the material discharge opening of the comminuter. Preferably, the moisture content of the discharged material is in the range of 25% to 35% to facilitate the pelletizing of the discharged material after being sterilized. Other precesses, however, can require the drying of the discharged material to about 10%. An air flow control mechanism is provided for the cyclonic comminuter to enhance the ability to control the discharge of air from the comminuter. The control is provided with adjustable vanes actuated from a actuator projecting outwardly from the comminuter to permit an easy adaptation to automated controls to restrict the size of the air discharge opening from the comminuter.
