Abstract:
The invention relates to a device for reducing the thickness of an edge (2) of a board web (3) or board sheets, comprising a cutting blade (1); and structure for supporting, positioning and rotating the cutting blade and for guiding the edge (2) to be thinned with respect to the cutting blade (1). To provide a mechanically simple device construction of good adjustability, the cutting blade (1) is disclike; and the edge guide comprises a lower roll (4) and structure (5) for tightening the edge to be thinned against the lower roll.
Abstract:
A device and method for forming a moving web of laminated composite material having weakened zones therein from a moving continuous web of relatively extensible plastic film material, having identical sets of graphics printed on nominally constant length repeat length portions thereof which are subject to length variation from a constant design repeat length distance, and a moving continuous web of relatively nonextensible paper material. A method and device for forming a three-layered composite material having weakened zones therein is also described. Carton blanks and liquid tight cartons having tear away tab portions formed from such three-layered composite material are also described.
Abstract:
Blanks (10) for producing folding boxes, etc., are severed from an advancing sheet (11), conveyed continuously, at a constant speed by first drawing rollers specifically by partial severing cuts (cutting lines 33, 34) supplementing one another and made in successive work cycles. The blanks (10) are severed from the sheet (11), with the exception of residual connections (35), and are separated completely from the sheet (11) by tearing as a result of a higher speed of additional drawing roller located downstream of the first rollers.
Abstract:
A process for producing a tubular casing by folding a flat plastic sheet (1) into a tubular structure by a shaping former (6) as the sheet advances, and joining the meeting edges of the folded sheet to form the tubular casing, characterized by forming grooves (13) on one or both sides of the sheet along fold lines, coating a surfactant (12) on the sheet surface at least at the fold line portions of the sheet surface which are to be brought into contact with the shaping former, and then folding the sheet into a tubular structure by the shaping former.
Abstract:
A container and corresponding blank from which such container is formed is particularly suitable for packaging liquid products and aseptically packaging liquid foods. The rectangular shaped blank may be formed of a laminated sheet material that preferably includes a composite of paperboard web, aluminum foil and intermediate layers of heat sealable polymer. All blank fold lines are scored and an induction sealing flange area is provided around the entire blank perimeter. A unit of several sheet linked blanks is symmetrically folded about a central axis for juxtaposed alignment of sealing flange areas around the perimeter of the unfolded blank. After induction sealing, the package side flange at the bottom of the unit, the resulting tube pocket is open and charged with a material quantity of liquid. After charging, the series of edge flanges above the first sealed edge flange are also induction sealed and severed from the unit remainder to complete a pillow shaped package. With fluid contents encapsulated, the pillow-shaped package includes a standing flange seam around three of four edges. The pillow corners are collapsed along diagonal corner score lines to triangular gable points and the side and ends of the pillow mechanically erected to orthographic planes with the standing seams and corner gable points folded flat against an adjacent plane.
Abstract:
An apparatus and method for forming a fold construction in a triple wall corrugated paper board comprises a pair of spaced apart main frame plates having four support plates connected therebetween in a direction which is transverse to a feed direction for the paper board. A pair of shaft carrier plates which have linear bearings thereon, are mounted for sliding movement to the support shafts between the frame plates. Spreader tubes are engaged around the support shafts for maintaining a selected and accurate distance between the carrier plates. Upper and lower shafts are rotatably mounted between the carrier plates and carry knives, scoring members or other fold forming elements for scoring or cutting the paper board to form segments of the fold construction. A table is fixed between the carrier plates that cooperates with a hold down roller which is rotatably mounted between the plates, to hold the paper board down and prevent curling or warping as the fold construction is formed.
Abstract:
An integral box component for a container including paperboard center and side sheets spaced apart and secured to a primary base sheet of paperboard and covered with bottom and top layers of paper wrap material to seal the paperboard sheets against moisture. The method comprises forming the center and side sheets and securing them to the primary base sheet and then securing the top and bottom wrapping papers thereto. Other auxiliary steps are employed to form a completed box component.
Abstract:
There is provided an apparatus for applying constant pressure to a knife blade for crush-scoring, wherein the knife blade is supported in a substantially frictionless manner and the constant pressure is supplied by a flexible diaphragm acting on a plunger which can move substantially without friction in a pneumatic cylinder.
Abstract:
There is provided an improvement to the lock and/or release systems, associated in structure and operation to the rests of circular blades or creasers, for cutters or creasing machines to be used in the field of paper and cardboard manufacturing, comprising in a structural operative unit, which includes at least a rest co-operating with sliding and traverse means, guides for the traverse of each unit along a bearing beam, each unit comprising at least a circular blade or creaser and additionally including a lowering and lifting device for the blade or creaser and selective lock or release device for said rest on the beam, wherein the lowering and lifting device and lock or release device are coordinated and synchronized in such a way that the lowering and lifting movements coincide with the activation of the lock and, respectively, the release thereof.
Abstract:
Envelope blanks are scored and folded by pressing the flat blanks through a series of scoring and folding rolls. The rolls include vacuum rolls which invert the envelope blanks during the scoring operation. The blanks are scored laterally and as they pass over the outer surface of one of the vacuum rolls they are scored longitudinally. During the longitudinal scoring operation, the envelopes are curvilinear due to their being drawn down onto one of the vacuum rolls. After the longitudinal scoring operation, the blanks are inverted by being folded along the transverse score. The inverted, folded blanks are then moved along by a pair of cooperating vacuum rolls to a gumming station. After being gummed, the blanks are folded along their longitudinal scores with the folded flaps being secured in place by the gum.
