Abstract:
An improved wind power device for wind energy conversion or vehicle propulsion. Among many possibilities contemplated, the device may have a moving sail with tethered wings (101), moving in elliptical trajectory, utilize separate sheave (503) and cable drum (505), use a block and tackle (411), attached to the tether and utilize a cable having a flexible jacket with aerodynamically streamlined cross section (603).
Abstract:
The invention relates to a high strength fibers comprising a coating of cross-linked silicone polymer, and ropes made thereof. The fibers are preferably high performance polyethylene (HPPE) fibers. The coating comprising a cross-linked silicone polymer is made from a coating composition comprising a cross-linkable silicone polymer. The rope shows markedly improved service life performance in bending applications such as cyclic bend-over-sheave applications. The invention also relates to the use of a cross-linked silicone polymer in a rope for an improvement of bend fatigue resistance.
Abstract:
According to some embodiments, a cable protection system to at least partially shield a cable from heat, fire, an impact or other potentially harmful event or occurrence comprises a first encompassing member configured for placement around the cable or cable bundle, wherein a first void is defined between the first encompassing member and an outside of the cable or cable bundle. The system additionally includes a second encompassing member positioned around the first encompassing member, wherein a second void is defined between the first encompassing member and the second encompassing member. Further, the system comprises one or more fill materials positioned within the second void. In some embodiments, the fill material comprises vermiculite, ceramic and/or one or more other materials. The first void permits the cable protection system to be slidably moved relative to the cable or cable bundle.
Abstract:
An elevator installation is provided that includes an elevator cage, a drive pulley, at least one support means formed as a flat belt, and a drive engine which drives the at least one support means, which carries the elevator cage, by way of the drive pulley. In the elevator installation, the support means has, at least on a running surface facing the drive pulley, several ribs of wedge-shaped or trapezium-shaped cross-section which extend parallel in a longitudinal direction of the support means and further has several tensile carriers oriented in the longitudinal direction of the support means. The tensile carriers are sized so that a total cross-sectional area of all the tensile carriers amounts to 30%-40% of a cross-sectional area of the support means. The tensile carriers may be distributed in a transverse direction of the support means so that exactly two tensile carriers are associated with each of the ribs, the tensile carriers having an outer diameter equal to 35%-40% of a rib spacing (T).
Abstract:
An elevator load bearing assembly includes a plurality of cords within a jacket. The cords are spaced from an exterior surface on the jacket such that the spacing remains generally constant along the length of the belt. The jacket has a smooth, uninterrupted exterior surface for contacting sheaves as the belt moves in the elevator system. A method of making the inventive belt assembly is disclosed. The inventive belt assembly minimizes the possibility for generating an annoying, audible sound and vibration during elevator operation.
Abstract:
A reelable slickline for use in downhole or subsea operations has a structural core comprising a plurality of non-metallic fibres in a matrix. The fibres represent in the region of 30 to 50% of the volume of the core.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a round sling, and more particularly, to a round sling and to a method for manufacturing same in which threads are twisted according to a predetermined fracture, coated with a conductor, and extrusion-molded together with a core tube. The thus-manufacturing round sling can be determined to be undamaged and used when the round sling conducts electric currents, and prevented from being used when the round sling does not conducts electric current and the round sling is determined to be damaged at a level higher than a preset damage level. Thus, the round sling of the present invention prevents negligent accidents.
Abstract:
Elevator, preferably a passenger elevator, which comprises an elevator car, and at least one hoisting rope for moving and supporting the elevator car, a traction sheave that acts on the hoisting rope, and a power source for rotating the traction sheave. The counterweight of the elevator comprises a brake for decelerating and/or preventing at least upward movement of the counterweight.
Abstract:
An elevator load bearing assembly (20) includes a plurality of cords (22) within a jacket (24). The jacket has a plurality of grooves (32, 34, 36, 38 40) spaced along the length of the belt assembly. Each groove has a plurality of portions (50, 52, 54, 56) aligned at an oblique angle (A, B) relative to a longitudinal axis (48) of the belt (20). In one example, the grooves are separated such that there is no longitudinal overlap between adjacent grooves. In another example, transitions (60, 64) between the obliquely aligned portions are at different longitudinal positions on the belt. Another example includes a combination of the different longitudinal positions and the non-overlapping groove placement.
Abstract:
A fiber cable for helicopter rescue winches includes a plurality of load-bearing synthetic-fiber strands braided with one another, at least one electrically conductive insert, and a wear indicator providing a visual check of a state of the fiber cable, where the load-bearing synthetic-fiber strands are encased in a radial direction by a friction-reducing stable fiber layer, an inner cable jacket, and outer cable jacket.
