Wheat grain (Triticum aestivum) comprising an embryo and starch, wherein the embryo comprises two identical alleles of an SBEIIa-A gene, two identical alleles of an SBEIIa-B gene and two identical alleles of an SBEIIa-D gene, wherein each of the SBEIIa genes gives rise to an amount of protein (w/w) or a protein having SBEIIa activity which is lower than the corresponding wild-type gene, and at least one of said genes comprises a point mutation, wherein the starch comprises amylose such that the grain has an amylose content of at least 50% (w/w) as a proportion of the extractable starch of the grain.

The present invention provides an inbred corn line designated HID3753, methods for producing a corn plant by crossing plants of the inbred line HID3753 with plants of another corn plant. The invention further encompasses all parts of inbred corn line HID3753, including culturable cells. Additionally provided herein are methods for introducing transgenes into inbred corn line HID3753, and plants produced according to these methods.

In a method of preparing a liquid oat base a material comprising oat bran is suspended in an aqueous media and contacted with ct-amylase, β-amylase, β-glucanase, and xylanase to raise the concentration of soluble arabinoxylan by a factor of 5 or more Also disclosed is a liquid oat base obtainable by the method; a powderous oat base obtained by drying the liquid oat base; uses of the liquid and powderous oat bases and food products comprising them. A powderous composition for use in preparing liquid oat base comprises oat bran, ct-amylase, β-amylase, β-glucanase, and xylanase.

Exemplary embodiments provide oat fractions, and methods of producing the oat fractions, of the species Avena Sativa that has a concentration of total Avenanthramides that is from about 2 to about 25 wt. %, and up to about 30 wt. % or more, higher than the concentration before treatment with infrared energy. The higher concentration is achieved without treatment with enzymes or exposure to fungal agents to increase the concentration of total Avenanthramides. Instead, the enhanced concentration of Avenanthramides is achieved through exposure to infrared energy for a selected period of time.

Dough with a high sucrose content (such as cake dough) tends to inhibit the activity of an anti-staling amylase such as Novamyl, making it less effective to prevent the staling of dough-based products with high sucrose content such as cakes. A good anti-staling effect in cakes can be achieved by using a carefully selected anti-staling amylase with certain properties.Analysis of a 3D structure of Novamyl shows that sucrose may inhibit by binding in the active site. Sucrose docks into the active site of Novamyl differently from the substrate or inhibitor in published models 1QHO and 1QHP. This finding is used to design sucrose-tolerant variants.

It is also directed to the use of ferric pyrophosphate in combination with citric acid and/or a citrate salt to supplement reconstituted rice kernels with iron. Furthermore, it is directed to a process to prepare reconstituted rice kernels enriched with iron.

Heat-stabilized defatted rice bran (HDRB) is fermented with yeast to afford a food product having superior prebiotic for probiotic properties. Fermentation of HDRB with yeast yields a prebiotic composition that can promote the growth and/or activity of beneficial intestinal bacteria (probiotic) when consumed by an animal or human. The prebiotic and/or probiotic compositions can afford substances having desirable health effects when consumed. The yeast fermented, and the probiotic fermented extracts and residues will have several nutraceutical compounds including protein, phenolics, phytic acid, arabinose, bioactive isoflavones, dietary fibers and several others that will have health benefits. Inclusion of legumes during fermentation can synergistically enhance the bioactivities of HDRB. HDRB can be a source of growth medium for yeast/mold/microorganisms.

A horse feed dietary supplement composition increases the energy and improves the health and coat of a horse and is formed as a partially defatted seed meal composition that may be supplemented to a horse feed. The composition includes a shelf stable, partially defatted supercritical CO2 fluid solvent extracted whole grain flour that is derived from Salvia hispanica L. whole ground seed and that is free of cyanogenic glycosides, vitamin antagonists, and gluten. The flour includes minerals, protein, insoluble fiber and from 1-25% wt/wt of about 3.0-3.3:1 mixture of ALA to LA native seed oil.
