Abstract:
A mat for simulating natural terrain for use in an indoors display is the subject of this invention. The mat comprises a sheet of water impervious resinous material, a water base latex emulsion coating applied to the resinous material and a quantity of terrain simulating particles which are adhered to the sheet by the dried coating. The particles are fixed to the sheet by a sealant which is sprayed on the particles after the coating has dried. The particles may comprise flocking, ground foam rubber or rigid solid pieces. The invention also encompasses a method of preparing a simulated natural terrain utilizing the mat as afore described. This method includes outlining desired terrain features, applying water to the outlined area, scraping the substrate to remove particles from the outlined area and then coloring the area. Additional terrain features can be incorporated into the mat by scraping the mat to expose the underlying substrate in the shape of a design in the roadway such as a centerline, crosswalk or the like. Still further terrain simulating features may by utilizing a heat source to raise the temperature of the substrate and then shaping it into hills and valleys.
Abstract:
A spiral membrane element that can reduce the dimension increase in the length direction is provided by forming a fiber reinforced resin layer having a reinforcing fiber layer and a strengthening fiber layer. Also, a method for producing a spiral membrane element is provided having a step of forming a fiber reinforced resin layer having a reinforcing fiber layer and a strengthening fiber layer. The spiral membrane element is provided with a cylindrical wound body in which a separation membrane, a feed-side channel material, and a permeate-side channel material in a laminated state are wound in a spiral form around a center tube having a hole, and a sealing part for preventing feed-side fluid and permeate-side fluid from being mixed with each other, wherein a fiber reinforced resin layer having a reinforcing fiber layer and a strengthening fiber layer enclosed and buried with the same resin is provided on an outer circumferential side of the cylindrical wound body.

Polymer brushes (50) in a resin that create phonon pathways therein The polymer brushes themselves comprise structured polymer hairs having a density of 0.8 to 1.0 g/cc, a chain length of 1 to 1000 nm, and a thermal conductivity of 0.5 to 5.0 W/mK. The polymer brushes are 10-25% by volume of the resin, and the polymer hairs can orient surrounding resin molecules to the polymer hairs alignment (55).
Abstract:
A method of making a durable fuel cell polymer electrolyte membrane is provided comprising the steps of: a) providing a polymer electrolyte membrane; b) providing a solution of a salt selected from the group consisting of manganese salts and cerium salts or a suspension of particles of a compound selected from the group consisting of manganese oxides and cerium oxides; and c) applying the solution or suspension to the polymer electrolyte membrane by a method selected from the group consisting of brushing, spraying and use of a slot die. Some embodiments comprise metered application of the solution to the polymer electrolyte membrane.
Abstract:
A surface covering is provided, comprising a substrate with a flocking layer adhered to the substrate by an adhesive. The substrate is formed at least partially from granulated recycled rubber and a binding agent. In an exemplary embodiment, a design is applied to the flocking layer. A method of manufacturing the surface covering comprises the steps of producing a substrate formed at least partially from granulated recycled rubber and a binding agent, flocking the substrate with fibers of a selected base color to form a base covering, printing a transfer paper with a design and transferring the design from the transfer paper to fibers of the base covering.
Abstract:
A fiber planted steel sheet obtained by forming only a fiber planting layer having excellent adhesion to a substrate made from a composition having special composition on the surface of a surface treated steel sheet as a substrate without forming a primer of a polyester synthetic resin containing an anticorrosive pigment and the like and electrostatically planting short fibers in the planting layer. Therefore, the electrostatically fiber planted steel sheet is produced by coating an aqueous adhesive composition for planting fibers comprising an emulsion resin having a glass transition temperature of −40 to 40° C., aqueous coloring pigment dispersion, defoamer and pH modifier on the surface of the surface treated steel sheet to form a fiber planting layer having excellent adhesion to the steel sheet on the surface of the steel sheet and electrostatically planting short fibers while the surface of the planting layer retains adhesion.
Abstract:
A steering wheel, comprising: an inner core; a cushion member disposed about the inner core; a first decorative trim member disposed over the cushion member, the first decorative trim member comprising a flexible layer; and a second decorative trim member disposed over the first decorative trim member, the second decorative trim member being more rigid than the first decorative trim member wherein a portion of the first decorative trim member is abraded to remove a portion of an exterior surface of the first decorative trim member to provide a roughened area for receiving an adhesive for securing the second decorative trim member to the first decorative trim member.
Abstract:
A method of applying dry or low moisture fibrous thermal insulation by spraying an air entrained stream of pieces of fibrous insulation into cavities in a structure in which at least the largest area wall of the cavity is at least partially coated with a pressure sensitive adhesive, including vertical wall cavities, without having to use any insulation securing means is disclosed. The pressure sensitive adhesive is applied to at least part of one or more walls of the cavity and allowed to form a tacky surface prior to spraying in the pieces of fibrous insulation. The resultant just installed insulation, because of its low moisture content, requires either no drying time or less drying time than conventional blown in insulation before wall board or other facing material is applied without fear of mold forming.
Abstract:
In one embodiment, a method for producing a decorative article, comprising: (a) providing a flocked surface, the flocked surface comprising a plurality of flock fibers and an activatable adhesive, wherein the activatable adhesive is less than 50% activated; (b) dimensionalizing the plurality of flock fibers, such that a first set of fibers is embedded to a greater distance in the activatable adhesive than a second set of fibers; and (c) after dimensionalizing, at least substantially fully activating the activatable adhesive to form the decorative article.
Abstract:
A fabric which prevents outerwear from being noticed, heard or smelled by prey when worn. The fabric includes a flocked woven substrate with flattened flock fibers with the fibers adhered to the substrate. The substrate is quiet and soft. Preferably a printed layer is transferred on said flattened flock fibers and preferably is of a camouflage print pattern. The substrate is drapeable as an apparel item and more abrasion resistant than foamed knitted fabrics. Further the fabric is resistant to burr retention, wind and rain.
