    摘要: A process for the production of structural and semi-structural composites formed by compressing planar layers of nonwoven preform materials formed from aqueous blends of reinforcing fibers and thin thermoplastic fluoropolymer flake. The flakes have an irregular periphery with microfibrils extending therefrom, having a Canadian Standard Freeness of from 800 to 883. The planar layers which are unconstrained in the in-plane direction are preconsolidated by heating the layer to above the melting point of the fluoropolymer, the applying pressure normal to the plane of the layer causing the fluoropolymer to flow thus orienting the fibers in the plane of the layer. The composites are useful in applications which require higher strength and/or modulus, and where chemical and/or heat resistance is needed, as in chemical processing.

    摘要: An electrolyte reservoir plate is formed in a papermaking process. Graphite powder, reinforcing fibers, cellulosic fibers, and a thermosetting resin are mixed with a liquid to form a slurry and showered onto a screen to form a planar sheet which is dried to form paper. The paper is cut into the desired size and is lay-up with main sheets 4 and edge strips 6. The lay-up is laminated with pressure and heat, carbonized, and graphitized to form an electrolyte reservoir plate.

    摘要: A composite gasket material includes a fiber component (3-15% by wt.), an elastomeric binder component (3-15% by wt.), and a solid filer component (60-90% by wt.). The material may additionally include a phenolic or epoxy resin (up to 5 wt. %) and a silicone resin (up to 5 wt. %). The filler includes as a component a salt formed from a multivalent metal cation and a sterically hindered dicarboxylic acid. The salt ingredient typically comprises from about 20 to 80 wt. % of the filler. Gaskets made from this composite material exhibit improved sealability and thermal stability while retaining other desirable mechanical properties. These materials are able to withstand operating temperatures up to about 450.degree. C.
