Abstract: Processes and systems for producing isomeric mixtures of aromatic amine monomers from aromatic feeds. An example process for producing isomeric mixtures of aromatic amine monomers from aromatic feeds may include nitrating at least a portion of an aromatic feed to produce a mixture of nitrated aromatic compounds. The example process may further include hydrogenating at least a portion of the nitrated aromatic compounds to produce an isomeric mixture of aromatic amine monomers. The example process may further include processing the isomeric mixture of aromatic amine monomers to form a product selected from an aromatic compound with a different functional group than the aromatic amine monomers, a polymerized product, or a reaction product of the aromatic amine monomers and H2S.

Abstract: A method of assigning an octane number to a sample fuel based on the knock intensities obtained from a plurality of reference fuels each having a different assigned octane number while operating an engine at an established compression ratio. The knock intensities obtained from the plurality of reference fuels are plotted relative to the assigned octane numbers of the fuels. A line is fit to the plotted knock intensities. The octane number for a sample fuel is assigned based on the knock intensity obtained for the sample fuel, the knock intensity obtained from a prototype fuel having an assigned octane number, and the fitted line. In embodiments, an R squared value is obtained for the fitted line and compared with a minimum acceptable R squared value and the fitted line is validated if the R squared value is at least the minimum acceptable R squared value.

Abstract: A remote survey system includes an unmanned surface vehicle that includes a body, a propulsion system coupled to the body to provide mobility to the unmanned surface vehicle to traverse a surface of a waterbody, and a thickness detection assembly mounted to a hull of the body and including one or more thickness detection cameras. A central computer system is located at a command center and in wireless communication with the unmanned surface vehicle via a communication module. The one or more thickness detection cameras are positioned to obtain one or more images or videos of an air-oil-water interface on the surface of the waterbody, and a thickness of a released substance present on the surface of the waterbody is determined based on the one or more images or videos of the air-oil-water interface.

Abstract: A method of attenuating annular pressure buildup within a wellbore. The method includes accessing a wellbore, with the wellbore having an annulus disposed between first and second strings of casing. The method also includes placing a column of cement around the second string of casing generally below the first string of casing. The method further includes pumping a fluid mixture into the annulus, forming a fluid column. The fluid mixture comprises a carrier fluid, and a plurality of compressible particles dispersed in the carrier fluid. Each of the compressible particles is fabricated to partially collapse in response to thermal expansion of the fluid mixture. The method also includes placing a wellhead over the wellbore, thereby forming a trapped annulus in the wellbore. The method additionally includes at least partially sealing the annular region along at least one depth above the column of cement to inhibit vertical migration of the compressible particles.

Abstract: The present disclosure provides base stocks and or diesel fuel, and processes for producing such base stocks and or diesel fuel by polymerizing alpha-olefins and internal olefins. The present disclosure further provides polyolefin products useful as base stocks and or diesel fuel. In at least one embodiment, a process includes: i) introducing, neat or in the presence of a solvent, a feed comprising a branched C5-C30 internal olefin, with a catalyst compound comprising a group 8, 9, 10, or 11 transition metal and at least one heteroatom; and ii) obtaining a C6-C100 polyolefin product having one olefin, a methylene content of from about 1 wt. % to about 98 wt. %, and or a methyl content of from about 1 wt. % to about 75 wt. %. The feed may further include a linear C4-C30 internal olefin, a C2-C30 alpha-olefin, or a mixture thereof.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for partial upgrading of heavy hydrocarbon feeds to meet transport specifications, such as pipeline transport specifications. The systems and methods can allow for one or more types of improvement in heavy hydrocarbon processing prior to transport. In some aspects, the systems and methods can produce a partially upgraded heavy hydrocarbon product that satisfies one or more transport specifications while incorporating an increased amount of vacuum gas oil and a reduced amount of pitch into the partially upgraded heavy hydrocarbon product. In other aspects, the systems and methods can allow for increased incorporation of hydrocarbons into the fraction upgraded for transport, thereby reducing or minimizing the amount of hydrocarbons requiring an alternative method of disposal or transport. In still other aspects, the systems and methods can allow for reduced incorporation of external streams into the final product for transport while still satisfying one or more target properties.

Abstract: An upgraded crude composition is provided, along with systems and methods for making such a composition. The upgraded crude composition can include an unexpectedly high percentage of vacuum gas oil boiling range components while having a reduce or minimized amount of components boiling above 593° C. (1100° F.). In some aspects, based in part on the hydroprocessing used to form the upgraded crude composition, the composition can include unexpectedly high contents of nitrogen. Still other unexpected features of the composition can include, but are not limited to, an unexpectedly high nitrogen content in the naphtha fraction; and an unexpected vacuum gas oil fraction including an unexpectedly high content of polynuclear aromatics, an unexpectedly high content of waxy, paraffinic compounds, and/or an unexpectedly high content of n-pentane asphaltenes.

Abstract: Container systems for the transportation and/or storage of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) are provided. The container systems include: a) an outer shell; b) an inner pressurized container, wherein the inner pressurized container comprises a first chamber having a first vent and at least one other chamber having a second vent; c) at least one heat exchange zone in thermal communication between the first chamber and the at least one other chamber; and d) an interstitial space between the outer shell and the inner pressurized container including at least a partial vacuum. Methods for transporting and/or storing LNG using the aforementioned container systems are also provided.
