    Abstract: A motor for use in a refrigerant atmosphere includes a rotor configured to rotate about an axis and a stator adjacent the rotor. The stator includes a core defining an end, and a plurality of teeth defining a plurality of slots. A plurality of coils are wrapped around the plurality of teeth such that each coil of the plurality of coils comprises a pair of slot portions extending at least partially through adjacent slots of the plurality of slots and an end turn extending between the slot portions and at least partially across the end. A shell encapsulates the end of the stator such that the end turns of said plurality of coils are substantially sealed from the refrigerant atmosphere.

    Abstract: A drive circuit for a permanent split capacitor (PSC) motor includes an inverter, a solid state switch, and a contactor coupled in parallel with the solid state switch. The inverter is configured to supply variable frequency current to the PSC motor over a first duration. The solid state switch is configured to supply line frequency current to the PSC motor at the expiration of the first duration. The contactor is configured to supply the line frequency current to the PSC motor over a second duration beginning when the contactor closes after expiration of the first duration.

    Abstract: A liner for use for a resilient stator of an electric machine for positioning between teeth formed in the stator. The stator is conformable from a first generally extending shape with opposed spaced apart ends and to a second generally hollow circular shape. The liner includes a central portion for positioning in a cavity between the adjacent teeth, a first end portion for limiting motion of the liner extending from the central portion and adapted to cooperate with a first end face of the stator, and a second end portion extending from the central portion and cooperating with a second end face of the stator, opposed to the first end face. The first end portion limits motion of the liner. The liner is positioned between adjacent teeth when the stator is in the first shape and remains in the cavity when the stator is in the second shape.
