Abstract: A method, an apparatus, and a computer program product for wireless communication are provided. The apparatus receives first information from a base station, determines, based on the first information, a position of resources for receiving a signal transmitted from a connection point, detects the signal via at least one beam receiving direction based on the resources, determines a beam transmitting direction of the connection point and a beam receiving direction of the UE based on the signal, identifies a beam receiving direction of the connection point based on the beam transmitting direction of the connection point, and provides the connection point with second information based on the beam receiving direction of the connection point, wherein the second information may comprise an intent to establish a millimeter-wave (mmW) link with the connection point, the beam receiving direction of the UE, and/or the beam transmitting direction of the connection point.

Abstract: The base station that is configured to transmit in a beamformed manner may set different transmission rates for different directions of the beams. During an initial access stage, the base station may determine how densely user equipments are located in various regions surrounding the base station, and may assign more beams for transmission of an initial access signal in an area with more UEs. The apparatus may be a base station. The base station divides a region surrounding the base station into a plurality of sub-regions, where one region of the plurality of sub-regions covers a greater area than at least one other region of the plurality of sub-regions. The base station assigns each beam of a plurality of beams of the base station to a respective sub-region of the plurality of sub-regions. The base station transmits at least one initial access signal in each direction of the plurality of beams using a respective beam of the plurality of beams, each direction of the plurality of beams corresponding to a respective sub-region of the plurality of sub-regions.

Abstract: A transmitting device may determine that a first neighbor device is communicating with a second neighbor device based on a signal received from the first device (e.g., a request-to-send (RTS) signal) during a listen-before-talk (LBT) period. The transmitting device may also identify a direction of the second neighbor device (e.g., based on signals received during a previous LBT period), and determine the amount of interference that a directional transmission may cause at the second neighbor device. The determination may be based on whether the transmission direction (i.e., a beam direction of a directional transmission) is in a same direction as the second neighbor device. If the interference level is below a threshold, the transmitting device may perform the transmission despite receiving the signal during the LBT period. If the interference level is above the threshold, the transmitting device may refrain from transmitting.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. Synchronization signals may be transmitted using a set of phase offsets over different component carriers or using a single component carrier for each antenna port. For example, a base station may identify a set of synchronization signals (e.g., a set of primary synchronization signals (PSSs)) to be transmitted over one or multiple component carriers. In some cases, each PSS may be associated with a different component carrier, and the base station may apply a different phase offset to each PSS when transmitting the set of PSSs on the component carriers. In some examples, the base station may transmit the PSSs on the component carriers using a different antenna port for each component carrier.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. A user equipment (UE) may report a phase-noise compensation reference signal (PCRS) configuration to a base station to enable per-UE PCRS signaling. For example, a UE may operate in a wireless communications system using carrier frequencies greater than 6 GHz, which may be affected by phase noise. The UE may accordingly determine a PCRS configuration based on a capability to receive signals. The PCRS configuration may include a resource mapping for one or more PCRS, a number of PCRS ports used for PCRS, a multiplexing scheme for one or more PCRS ports, or the UE's phase noise estimation capability. The UE may then transmit a reporting message including the PCRS configuration to a base station. The base station may use the PCRS configuration for PCRS transmissions to the UE.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices are described for wireless communication at a user equipment (UE). A wireless communications system may improve UE discovery latency by dynamically selecting and switching beam forming codebooks at the millimeter wave base station and the wireless device. Selecting an optimal beam forming codebook may allow the wireless communication system to improve link margins between the base station without compromising resources. In some examples, a wireless device may determine whether the received signals from the millimeter wave base station satisfy established signal to noise (SNR) thresholds, and select an optimal beam codebook to establish communication. Additionally or alternately, the wireless device may further signal the selected beam codebook to the millimeter wave base station and direct the millimeter wave base station to adjust its codebook based on the selection.
