Abstract: A rope structure adapted to engage an intermediate structure while loads are applied to ends of the rope structure comprises a primary strength component and a coating. The primary strength component comprises a plurality of fibers adapted to bear the loads applied to the ends of the rope structure. The coating comprises a mixture of a lubricant portion and a binder portion. The lubricant portion comprises particles having an average size of within approximately 0.01 microns to 2.00 microns. The binder portion is applied to the primary strength portion as a liquid and dries to support the lubricant portion relative to at least some of the fibers. The matrix supports the lubricant portion such that the lubricant portion reduces friction between at least some of the plurality of fibers and between at least some of the plurality of fibers and the intermediate structure.

Abstract: A mooring loop is provided for use with connecting a mooring line to a bollard. The mooring loop may stretch and function as a time delay fuse when excessive loads are applied to the mooring line. The mooring loop is comprised of a reactive fiber component in the shape of a continuous loop that includes a plurality of at least one of: an undrawn hydrophobic polymer fiber or a substantially undrawn hydrophobic polymer fiber. At least two jackets are in surrounding relation to portions of the reactive fiber component. The at least two jackets include respective end portions which overlap. As the mooring loop stretches, a visual indicator on an end portion of one of the jackets pulls out of and away from the end portion of the other one of the jackets. The visual indicator serves as a warning that excessive loads are being applied to the mooring line.

Abstract: A dynamic stabilization system for stabilizing a vertebral segment of a spine. The system includes a first vertebral anchor, a second vertebral anchor and a cord. The system may also include a spacer positioned between the first and second vertebral anchor through which the cord extends. The first vertebral anchor is configured to be secured to a first vertebra and the second vertebral anchor is configured to be secured to a second vertebra. The cord is extendable from the first vertebral anchor to the second vertebral anchor. The cord has a variable stiffness through a range of displacement, wherein the stiffness of the cord increases as an applied tensile force on the cord is increased.

Abstract: A rope including polyethylene elongate elements oriented in the length direction of the rope, where for at least part of the elongate elements the distance of the element to a central longitudinal rope axis varies over the length of the rope. The polyethylene elongate elements including tapes of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene, the tapes having a width to thickness ratio of at least 10 and a polymer solvent content below 0.05 wt. %. The distance of at least part of the elements to the central longitudinal rope axis varies over the length of the rope between a longitudinal line which is at most 30% from the outside of the rope and a longitudinal line which is at most 30% from the central longitudinal axis of the rope. Such a rope shows a high strength-strength ratio (the ratio between the strength under use conditions and the fresh strength of the rope).
