    Abstract: Certain aspects of the present disclosure generally relate to apparatus and methods for switching operating bandwidth and/or operating channel in a wireless communications network. A transmitting STA may send an announcement of a switch to a particular bandwidth in a frame, wherein the presence or absence of a Secondary Channel Offset Element and a Wide Bandwidth Channel Switch Element in the frame indicates whether the particular bandwidth belongs to a first or second set of operating bandwidths. The presence of the Secondary Channel Offset Element and a Wide Bandwidth Channel Switch Element in the frame may indicate a switch to the first set of operating bandwidths. The first set of operating bandwidths may include VHT channels including 80 MHz only, 80+80 MHz and 160 MHz channels. The absence of the Secondary Channel Offset Element and a Wide Bandwidth Channel Switch Element in the frame may indicate a switch to the second set of operating bandwidths. The second set of operating bandwidths may include 20 MHz and 40 MHz channels.

    Abstract: Certain aspects of the present disclosure relate to station backoff behavior in uplink (UL) multiple user (MU) operations. Certain aspects of the present disclosure provide an apparatus for wireless communications. The apparatus generally includes a processing system configured to generate an unsolicited single user (SU) frame for transmission to an access point (AP) while the apparatus is configured to communicate with the AP via MU transmissions and a transmit interface configured to output the unsolicited SU frame for transmission. Certain aspects of the present disclosure provide another apparatus for wireless communications. The apparatus generally includes a processing system configured to contend for access to a medium by generating a first frame to trigger MU transmissions from a plurality of apparatuses and a transmit interface configured to output the first frame for transmission.

    Abstract: An 802.11ac access point (AP) may be capable of communicating with both 802.11n (on 40 MHz band) and 802.11ac devices (on 80 MHz band). While the 802.11ac AP is communicated with 802.11n devices on 40 MHz band, the remaining 40 MHz band is wasted because the 802.11n devices are not capable of communicating on this band. The AP may operate as if it is two virtual APs, one capable of communicating with 802.11n devices on a first primary and a first secondary channels (basic service set 1—BSS1) and the second communicating with 802.11ac devices on a second primary and a second secondary channels (BSS2). Individual beacons may be sent for BSS1 and BSS2. The transmissions on BSS2 may be performed simultaneously with transmissions on BSS1. However, transmission on one channel and receiving on the second channel cannot happen simultaneously.
