Abstract:
The present invention is directed to novel methods for assaying for modulators of GADD45 polypeptide activity. The invention also provides means to sensitize a proliferating cell to a DNA base-damaging agent by administration of novel inhibitors of GADD45 polypeptide activity. The invention further provides polypeptides which interfere with the ability of Cdc2/cyclin B1 complexes to cause a pause at the G2/M stage of the cell cycle in response to GADD45, and nucleic acids which encode such polypeptides.
Abstract:
A suite of polymer/zeolite nanocomposite membranes. The polymer backbone is preferably a film forming fluorinated sulfonic acid containing copolymer, such as a Teflon type polymer, a perfluorinated polymer, or a perfluorinated polymer with sulfonic groups. The zeolites formed in accordance with the present invention and which are used in the membranes are plain, phenethyl functionalized and acid functionalized zeolite FAU(Y) and BEA nonocrystals. The zeolite nanocrystals are incorporated into polymer matrices for membrane separation applications like gas separations, and in polymer-exchange-membrane fuel cells. For the purpose of developing zeolite-polymer nanocomposite membranes, the zeolite nanocrystals are size-adjustable to match the polymer-network dimensions.
Abstract:
A multi-network exchange system has a first type network (PSTN) and a second type network (Internet) and a multi-network exchange bridge in communication with the first and second type networks for the transfer of electronic information signals (telephone calls) between the first and second type networks. The multi-network exchange bridge apparatus facilitates transfer of electronic information signals to a portable access device or a gateway portal in communication with a node of one of second type networks from the first network. The multi-network exchange bridge has at least one multi-network instantiation device that enables the portable access device to function as a remote extension of the multi-network exchange bridge. A fixed address translation device provides conversion of a first address fixedly describing a node of the first type network to a second address or third address virtually describing nodes of the second type network
Abstract:
A method of protecting a digital work uses a format preserving encryption scheme to encrypt the digital work. This enables any native replay application or rendering application to transform an encrypted digital work into encrypted presentation data. The originator's digital content is protected in its original form by not being decrypted. This method enables the rendering or replay application to process the encrypted document into encrypted presentation data without decrypting it first. Encrypted presentation data is then decrypted just before it is displayed to the user. An additive encryption scheme is a particular type of encryption scheme which preserves formatting of a digital work.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to biofilm genes, their polypeptides, and the use of such genes, polypeptides and control regions in determining compositions for use in the disruption of biofilms and the treatment of disease. The identified compositions regulate the expression of the biofilm genes or modulate the activity of their protein products.
Abstract:
An induction actuated container includes a container body, a container cover, a drive and an induction element. The drive includes a driven operating member and a driving member. The induction elements includes a sensor and an actuating controller for the driving member. One end of the driven operating member is transmissively connected with the container cover, the other end is transmissively connected with the driving member, and the sensor is electrically connected with the actuating controller for the driving member, and the actuating controller for the driving member is connected with a controlling end of the driving member. A signal caused by the approaching of a human or object is received by the sensor and is converted into an electrical signal. Then, the actuating controller for the driving member controls the driving member to perform a corresponding mechanical action.
Abstract:
A system and method for the secure distribution of electronic documents reduces the likelihood of unauthorized reproduction and redistribution by either authorized or unauthorized recipients. A self-protecting document (SPD) contains an encrypted document as well as a secure set of permissions and the software necessary to process the document; full decryption of the document is performed as late as possible so as to minimize the possibility of intercepting the document before it has been fully rendered to screen or to paper.
Abstract:
Driver circuits of the present invention provide current to drive laser diodes. The output current of the driver circuit includes a data signal and a low frequency tone signal. The low frequency tone signal is within the bandwidth of a power control feedback loop. The tone signal introduces low frequency noise into the output signal of the driver circuit. The low frequency noise causes jitter at the zero crossing points of the driver circuit output signal. A laser driver circuit of the present invention provides a compensation current to a laser diode. The compensation current is out of phase with the tone signal. The compensation current eliminates the low frequency noise in the output signal of the laser driver circuit.
Abstract:
Methods and circuitry for implementing high speed first-in first-out (FIFO) structures. In one embodiment, a FIFO is disclosed that allows the frequency of one clock, e.g., the write clock, to be different than (e.g., half) that of the other (read) clock. In another embodiment a FIFO is presented that can be set and/or reset asynchronously. Other embodiments are disclosed wherein the read and write pointers are effectively monitored to ensure proper timing relationship, to detect loss of clock as well as to detect other abnormal FIFO conditions.
Abstract:
Method of enhancing a resident population of microorganism in a selected site of the gastrointestinal tract of an animal, the method comprising providing to the animal a selected modified or unmodified resistant starch or mixtures thereof in combination with one or more probiotic microorganisms such that upon ingestion the starch passes through the gastrointestinal tract substantially unutilized until it reaches the selected site where it is utilized by the resident and/or the probiotic microorganisms thereof causing an increase in number and/or activity of the microorganisms.
